Our American Bulldog seemed to be in pain the last 2 days, acting funny, and i noticed it had trouble sitting down and her behind looked swollen. I also noticed her pen has been SPOTLESS the last 2 days!... We put 2 and 2 together and have determined she CAN'T go to the washroom. My parents are afraid a vet bill will be too much to afford right now, although we are taking her first thing in the morning. But I was wondering if anyone here could help me or the dog? Is there ANYTHING we can do?

It is a FEMALE (intact) 2.5 yrs old. She has not swollen anything that she shouldn't have. All her toys are accounted for. She is an outdoor dog. Did not notice anything prior like diarrhea.

Should we give her some laxatives? I CANNOT take her to the vet until the morning. Its not up to me. If it was i would. I'm just asking for a little help with the options i have. Thats all.

Thanks

Your poor dog here is a site that may help you out. http://www.canismajor.com/dog/thlthvet.html Also one thing that may help her go is to add canned plain pumpkin to her diet a tablespoon make sure it plain and not the pumpkin pie mix that you don't want to give her. Also call your vet and ask if they can give you any advice, but I'm sure they'll want to see her, it could be her anal glans. If there is an infection she'll need to see the vet. So sorry;~(

Soulds like she may be constipated. If she isn't spayed, she could be coming into heat. It's a good thing you are seeing the Vet tomorrow anyway and I doubt it is anything costly at this point. Your Vet can tell you what is going on and if it is constipation, how to prevent that, what you might need to add to the diet and perhaps give something to help the dog go.
Anal gland impaction is possible, but even a Vet will have to examine the dog to tell you!
You are doing the best thing- you are taking her to the VET!
If there was a chance that something needed to be done that was more costly, you can ask your Vet if he or she will take payments or perhaps charge it on a credit card. Then you could help pay it off, maybe mowing lawns or something.
Something very very important for your dog is GETTING OUTSIDE OF THAT PEN EVERY DAY! Your dog needs at least two 45 minute walks every day and if possible, I would hope the dog could come inside some too. That way, you can avoid problems and you will know before two days if your dog has a problem or not.
Bully breeds love to be around their people and outside penned life is hard for them. Hope your pup will be fine.
JUST PLEASE DON'T GIVE HER LAXATIVES OR ANY HOME REMEDIES UNTIL YOU CHECK WITH THE VET OR YOU MIGHT MAKE SOMETHING WORSE.

There are several things that could be keeping your dog from defacating. Since you give up very little information about her (intact vs spayed, age, weight, pregnant, eating and drinking, diarrhea, etc) it's difficult to say what is going on with her, assuming it's a chick and not a male intact dog with a swollen prostate and perineal hernia.

Just think - how would you feel if you were in pain to 2 days and your parents did nothing?

"if anyone here could help me or the dog," well, it's your dog that is in pain, so I'm not sure what you need help with. Perhaps you should have your parents find the dog a new home where it doesn't have to sit around in pain for 2 days before getting treatment.

I have bred chihuahuas so i do have some experience in this...hope this is helpful, I would suggest if you are talking about a bowel movement try giving him some can puppy food not dry, and add a little water to it so it is runny and sometimes you have to stimulate there bottoms with a wet rag or paper towel just wipe it a few times that may help thats what there mothers do when they lick them there. if it's to urinate then do the same but to there privates. and if none of this works i would suggest calling a vet because if you try giving him something other than what i have suggested it could give them the runs and make him dehydrate and that can happen fast just like with a baby. and then he could die. best wishes

Oh wow thats not good. Im not sure what you should do, but i suggest taking her outside for a while to see if she goes, and if she goes to the bathroom, encourage her and try to help her to relax. i wouldn't feed her until the morning if there is something wrong with her stomach. i would definetly reccomend going to the vet AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. your dog should be okay. it might have been something she ate. good luck!

if you can't take her to the vets tonight which is teh best as this can be very serious you can try cod liver oil or if you don't have and can't get a teaspoon of vegetable oil.
I also would suggest taking any food away and only alow water until midnight just in case tehy vet needs to do any (God forbid) surgery.
As I said this could be serious

If she is scooting and in a lot of pain in her rear end she may have an infected or burst anal gland :( It may just hurt too much for her to go "to the washroom".

See if your vet has a lay away plan and such because she needs to go into the vet to get it examined and get some antibiotics.
