I have paid a 300 dollar down payment for a yorkie puppy and will pay the remaining 300 on delivery. He was supposed to be available around July 18th or so, at about 12 weeks old.
I
have bought my previous dog from these people, and he will be driven in from the next state.
On the 18th they emailed me to say that they were going on vacation and would email me when they returned on the 30th. Well, I ended up emailing them on the 2nd to ask what was up. They said that they would (likely) be having someone drive them here on the weekend of the eleventh. This is almost three weeks since the expected date.
Another member of their extended family has a litter of ready Yorkies here in the next town, they all work together and drive the puppies back and forth. They cost a bit more, but will be younger when I get them. I am afraid this puppy that is 'supposed' to be coming will already have habits and memories of these people, when I want to be his first memory.
What would you do?

I am wondering if I should ask to get one of the local, younger puppies instead at the lower price since they are not delivering me a young puppy as expected.

Should I just wait til the eleventh. Do you think he will already be attatched to these people and have their habits?

Am I overreacting?

Well if you bail, you will probably lose your deposit. Call them back and tell them you need a firm delivery date or else you want your deposit back, since the delivery date is now more thaan 2 weeks past what was promised and now they are pushing it to 3 weeks. Get a commitment from them.

I don't think the delay will have a major effect on the training and habits of your dog if you had a good experience with this breeder previously.

You'll never be a puppy's first memory.. That would likely be their mom... It doesn't matter how old the puppy is when you get him, they adapt, they join in your family and they forget their former owners. I would be worried tho who was caring for the puppies while they were gone on vacation. Has the puppy been socialized up til this point or stuck in a run / crate waiting to be shipped out etc..

I would forget the whole deal and buy from a litter that you can see, people who are more reliable and do what they say they are going to do.. You can't just go on vacation when you have promised someone you were going to deliver their puppy to them..

If you can i would go for the younger. this pup has been through a lot removed form mom, wonder who watched the pup while the people were on vacation??? now the breeder is back and wants you to wait and addition 2 weeks to get the pup this pup has already been through what sounds like many changes.
I wonder how well behaved and house trained if house trained this dog is.
Also if you get the older one find out if it's the breeders fault given ALL the updated vaccines and wormings?? also if it were my dog it would have already been put on heartworm protection and flea treatment what has the breeder done???

talk to them and tell them you would rather have one of the younger ones and tell them because of their not going by the agreement of shippment of the original puppy you dont think you should have to pay extra. Ihope you ge tone thats perfect for you no matter which one it is. but dont worry if you get the older one it will have the same chances to love you as the other one its just that having a younger one would be more fun.

Well the sound of this sounds like a puppy mill, I personally would get my deposit and look elsewhere for a dog.
