Dear Whirlingmercury,
Yes, I think that definitely is a good response, actually an excellent reponse to the MN bridge collapse and to tragedy in general.
Thank you very much for sharing that.
I have been in tears most of the day as I looked at the news. Such stories always sadden me but this one hit close to home for me. I used to live about a mile from that bridge and I have family members who still live in the area. One niece used to drive it every day when school was in session. I learned this evening that one nephew drove over the bridge 35 minutes before the collapse.
There was a tragedy of another sort last week which happened about 15 minutes from my home and it too made national news for the week. A mother and her 2 lovely daughters were murdered in their home by career burglars who had been released from prison after only serving 50% of their sentences. Already this week the state of CT is moving towards requiring that criminals serve at least 85% of their sentence before being considered for parole.
Hopefully such tragedies will cause people to examine their priorities for their personal lives.
Do you think John Piper's response is a good one?
For His glory,
JOYfilled

Bob t the president doesn't have to go to every bad thing like a bridge collapsing on the moments notice of it occuring. He has a job he needs to do and is probably busy with something else. Where was Clinton when the Towers got bombed while he was in office? He wasn't there, and overlooked the fact that it happened. Now look at what happened...9/11 happened.
OK to answer your question now...people respond differently to things that cause trauma. You can't expect the same response out of everyone, even in a horrible event. This doesn't mean people don't feel bad. Same as when someone dies that your close to. I know people that didn't cry when their parents died. But did months later . Because they were in shock, denial, etc. Sometimes things hurt people too much for them to respond to them right away!

That was a great response. How appropriate was the biblical text. It puts everyone of equal footing and uplifts God as God. Wasn't it a breath of fresh air to the skeptic who constantly blames God for every tragedy yet claims He doesn't exist. Where was God in Katrina, Thailand, and other disasters? If God doesn't exist, why don't blame the big bang or chance or the card that came up in a game of Monte Carlo? Could God have stopped the bridge from falling? Absolutely. He could have had Hitler's mother have a miscarriage and kept Katrina out to sea, but this world is under the curse of sin because of what we have done, not what God did. What we long for is on the other side when creation and saved sinners are ultimately redeemed. May Luke 13:3 and 5 ring true in our hearts, "except we repent, we all will perish." That God allows us to repent is sheer love and mercy.

here's a theory, why do no longer we blame the city of Minneapolis for spending the tax money that would desire to be allotted to infrastructure on bolstering the pensions of city workers? In each and every significant city in this u . s . a ., the union workers that "artwork" for the cities have the main costly earnings applications available. There are assured will strengthen, advantages and so on that each and every person come from our tax money. rather of paving roads, repairing potholes, platforms, and so on. the politicians feather their very own nests and can desire to offer a flying fig concerning the destiny. top occasion is New Orleans. whilst the hurricanes hit - it became thoroughly obvious that the federal government hadn't completed squat approximately levees in years yet you will possibly properly be sure the moron who became working FEMA on the time did no longer make under six figures.

Didn't president bush learn anything from hurricane katrina? The bridge collapsed on Wednesday. Where is the President? He has announced that he will be there on Saturday!!! 72 hours AFTER it collapsed? He is not even over seas for God's sake. The bridge is literally in the middle of the United states. If he flies in from California, Florida, or New York he should still be there in a couple hours. Even if he flew in from Hawaii he should still get there in under 16 hours! Where is the loser?
