So, anti-Christmas elves from the South Pole, the bitter rivals of the Christmas elves of the North Pole, can not break in and steal all of the gifts that Santa leaves as he makes his deliveries. The tradition started because the anti-Christmas elves (or "ACE"s) would tie a red ribbon around to doors of homes that they had already stolen from....so people did this to confuse the rotten theives. It worked, until the ACEs changed their signal to hanging lights on trees.

We gift at Christmas and it's all about giving special gifts and wrapping them with bows and such. Many people even tie bows on the front of their cars during the season. It's festive and fun. I hang garland outside of my house tied with bows and wreaths. It's all part of the Christmas celebration and season.
