Does the following quote reveal Finny's struggle in any way?? If yes, how??

"Naturally I don't believe books and I don't believe teachers, but I do believe-it's important for me to believe you [Gene]. Christ, I've got to believe you, at least. I know you better than anybody" (154).

It explains his trust in Gene.

John Knowles's book, "A Separate Peace," Gene struggles against, and eventually overcomes, emotional instability.

When Leper mentions the horrors of army discipline and the madness it had sparked within him, Gene shouts:

"Do you think I want to hear every gory detail! Shut up! I don't care! I don't care what happened to you, Leper. I don't give a damn! Do you understand that? This has nothing to do with me! Nothing at all! I don't care!" (151)

Gene, on Finny's strength: "He possessed an extra vigor, a heightened confidence in himself, a serene capacity for affection which saved him. Nothing as he was growing up at home, nothing at Devon, nothing even about the war had broken his harmonious and natural unity. So at last I had" (194-195).

I read this book a few years ago so I can't remember all the details but I think the book is more about Gene's struggle. Finny is a true friend to him but he can't believe that. He tries to protect himself by thinking that Finny is some kind of enemy and begins to secretly hate him.
