Surgery was to deepen the groove in the bone to allow the knee cap to fit properly - had this done on Tuesday. He has swelling of the upper leg and is not really too enthuastic about anything - owner is deeply concerned about how long recovery will be and if anyone has a pet with this type of surgery could tell me of how well their pet recovered. Concerned if we did the right thing by having the surgery done. Vet assures all is okay - but would really like to hear from people who have gone through this with their pet.

this is normal. Each dog is different in the recovery it often depends on the dog and how they tolerate the pain.
it may be a few days before he feels up to getting up and about.

I haven't had this on a dog, but I had very similar surgery myself. It was painful and swollen for about a month. I would believe your vet. He/she has years of experience in this.
