It was fun a first, but now, its just old. I've been massaging the area to get the blood flowing, but what else can I do...if I can do anything else that is.

Goodness gracious Rich darling, I wasn't asking for you to attack me, calm down tiger...its gonna be alright. I should have made that nerve connection though, so thanks about the whole not-related blood flow thing. I'm sure plenty of other people complain about it as well, just not here on Yahoo! Answers.

Its going to be ok, perhaps some rage-counseling is due hm?

If you're gonna be a rageful, patronizing, Mr. Cranky Pants like ol' Rich here, then I'd advise talking to someone who actually is retarded, I'm not stupid.

Hey Rich Z...local anesthetic has everything to do with blood flow. Blood flow is what causes the numbness to go away....that is why most anesthesia has an additional ingredient in it that causes the blood vessels to constrict so that the "Novocaine" stays around the tooth to keep it numb.. By the way....Novocaine has not been used for years. Dentist use Carbocaine, Xylocaine, Lidocaine, etc. Now, for helping the numbness go away faster you can hold a warm wash cloth on your face (causes increase in blood flow which causes the anesthesia to be absorbed by the body) or you can take a walk or hike and this will cause the heart rate to speed up which will in turn make the feeling come back sooner. Personally, I try to take a nap after dental work and when I wake up the numbness is gone!! Any excuse for a nap!

Found a good combination that helped a lot--Do it in this order: take an aspirin (don't do this if you have stitches or an open wound). Hold a warm/damp cloth on your face for several minutes. Take a brisk walk. Sip a warm (not too hot) coffee or tea through a straw. Chew minty gum. The combination gets your blood flowing, warms up the tissue, and breaks down the lidocaine faster. The caffeinated beverage stimulates more blood flow I think. The mint gum tingles and seems to help too.

Hot towel (by this I mean very warm, wring it a little with your hands if its giving you minor discomfort from the heat wait 20 seconds and apple to your cheek/lips )

repeat 4-5 times as the wash cloth will cool off within 2-3 minutes.
You should see a BIG difference.

Moving around will get your body going and can wear the freezing off faster. But don't do this if you've has oral surgery or a tooth taken out, you need rest!

Chew minty gum on the opposite side of your mouth from where where you got the novicaine. The mintiness and sugar will stimulate blood flow to your mouth and the chewing motion will keep your tongue out of the way of your bite.

Well.. You really can't do much. Just give it time and it'll go away. Don't sweat it...
