We all know that the point of prayer is communication with God. We are supposed to talk to God. But I think that we miss the part of prayer where God talks to us. And He talks to us in so many ways. He speaks to us through people He sends to give us messages. He speaks to us through things that we experience. He speaks to us through His Word. He speaks to us sometimes through His voice, yes there are times that we hear an audible voice. What makes us miss these things? Do we get to busy? What other noices do you hear that makes it harder for you to hear the voice of the Lord? God Bless.

Here's another thing that I just thought of, preachs made me think of this. How many of you hear that voice in your head, but don't know if it is of God, or ourselves? I know that is me. I try to get confirmationm, but I then don't know if the confirmation is of God. I know I should have more faith than that, but that is just me.

You spoke of God telling us things through our thoughts and if we could know that it is Him or ourselves.
One afternoon I was driving home and passed the cemetery where my brother is burried. I noticed a lady wearing black placing flowers on a grave. As I drove on, a voice or thought spoke to me and said, "go back". I ignored it. I drove on about two miles and heard it again, "go back".
I turned around thinking that in some way that lady needed me. I was wrong. She was packing up to leave. So, I stopped at my brother's grave and stood there quietly for a minuite or so. Then, I looked about three feet away and there was a grave with no marker. The grave had small objects on it like items that pertained to that person but no official marker.
I went home and called the cemetery. It turned out that the grave was that of a very young man who had committed suicide. His mother was unable to provide even enough money to place a small marker on it. She had lost her mother just two month's before and spent what she had on her funeral and marker
I immediately told my life group at church about the grave with no marker. Everyone wanted to pitch in and buy one. We did and the family was so touched and thankful that someone would care enough about their loved one to do this.
When God told me to "go back", He had a reason. I am so glad that I listened to Him. He involves people to be His hands and feet to do His will and to show His love to others.

This is SUCH a great question! One noise that gets in the way is tv....a lot! Another one is music...the wrong kind.
I was studying in Jeremiah today and found something out that I don't remember hearing before. Even the prophets were not always sure when something was from God or not. Chapter 32 verse 6....Jeremiah said the word of the Lord came to him and said to buy a field....but in verse 8 the guy that he was told to buy from came and asked HIM if he would buy it....THEN he knew that this was the word of the Lord. So, I guess one way to know if it is God or not...like in a dream or thought....is if someone else has the same thought. It is like a confirmation. Anyway, I just thought that was neat.
And, yes....I think we just get way too busy to hear sometimes. I think God wants to talk to us way more than we want to hear from Him. He is just waiting...

Friend, I believe God can speak to us in any way He chooses, and I believe it goes along with our personalities, He knows us so well. I am a reader and I am always tuned, or try to be, to the fact that any word I read could be God speaking to me. One of my favorites is the Daily Bread, a devotional that comes from RBC ministries, and I can read it day to day, but sometimes it hits home in a deeper way and its like His way of speaking, same with the Bible, sometimes I read, then sometimes the verses jump off the pages for me, Him speaking, or watching tv ministry, I can get a word. We are to hear the still small voice from God. When we have noises going on, we block Him, we can be out of tune and not here, working our way with a heart that desires to hear Him, will bring Him near. I just spent months feeling like He was so far away, that was me of course, but I have been fighting my way back, and yesterday He gave me word from the Daily Bread, then last night during church service, oh how great it is to feel the connection to the Lord after feeling distant, it is the best feeling there is...we search for him with all our hearts...He shall be found. Be blessed.

You are so right, listening or looking for an answer from God can be so hard. I think it's because they want to give up, or not listen when God sends someone to talk. I have prayed about many things and have been praying for my dad for about 7 or more years now and am still waiting on an answer from God I haven't given up but also know he is slowly answering my prayer, through what I seen of him last, he's changing but again slowly. God will take his time, and it takes time to heal.
I know God will help me overcome anything, and will give an answer to all whether it be what I want or not. I'll be patient and wait.
God Bless

We hear the voice/see the sign, but choose to ignore it or go with it. Like if God said give that man all the money in your wallet, you'd think it was just a voice in your head because you wouldn't want too give it up. Hearing God is all about faith. Without faith we are both blind AND deaf. If you have faith that it is Gods voice and choose too listen you shall hear. If not than... your loss. (btw thats too everyone when i say you and your not just the question asker)

I think we have to learn to appreciate silence, and learn to wait patiently. But I've noticed that sometimes answers come a bit later anyway, with a bit of reflection to recognize that they were indeed answers. It's not "noise" that interferes most for me, it's all the "I should be doing ..... instead of just waiting." Those are signs of left-brained guilt judgments, and what is more important is to say, "There is nothing more important right now than getting confirmation that my prayer was heard."

Great Question!!
It was said that the word of God came to John out in the wilderness. That was a genuine revelation... not words printed on a page.
Read about real revelation in the fun new free book... the last 4 chapters cover it.

I can totally understand you, receicing the words of the Holy Spirit is one of the hardest things to understand. Anyways, each and everytime we sin, we are once again seperated to god, so its important that we ask for forgiveness daily. Not only that, Satan does everything he can to get our minds of that topic. He makes us think about our favorite songs, favorite food, favorite video games, etc. so always be vigalent.
After u read the bible just lay on your bed for like 30 mins and think of nothing but what u have read. This will enable the holy spirit to come and teach you of God's thought

God talks to us through His word but it is not hear able voice like when we communicate friends here. We need to listen to Him and be quiet, and know his word, because He communicates with us through His word.
