I am thinking about getting Valium or Xanax to treat my anxiety. My anxiety is has been getting worse and now and everytime I run on the treadmill, my heart beats fast and I panic. I hate this. I want to take something for this. Any answers?

It seems to me you would want to find out why you are getting panicky from your heart beating fast while running (on a treadmill). It is normal for your heart to beat fast when you exercise. What are you fearing? I suggest you see your doctor and find out if there is anything real to fear with exercise. He/she also can recommend and prescribe a pill for anxiety. Counseling may be indicated.

Valium is not the ideal drug for longterm use. Klonopin, a long acting benzo, is preferred. Xanax now comes in a long acting form.

Yes, you can workout and still take an anti-anxiety med. If you find it sedating, you can take it at bedtime.
