It never fails to amaze me that certain christians criticize the Harry Potter books because "They promote witchcraft"
Yet they think that "The Chronicals Of Narnia" are wonderful books.
Also full of witchcraft.
I don't wish to be cynical but could the fact that C.S.Lewis was a prominent christian have anything to do with their thinking?

I've done a bit of research on this and here's what I've found.
1) The general prinicple against witches, or anything that would make witches appear cool or tempt children to play at them. Christians dont' like this, after all, all witches are evil and they are supposed to kill them. The bible says so.
2) Harry Potter does not have much respect for authority, and consistantly breaks the rules and not only gets away with it but is rewarded in the story for it time and again. This is not good morals, according to Christians.
3) I read a book that actually said the biggest problem is that Harry never once calls on Jesus Christ Almighty for help. He relies soley on his own judgment, which is fallible, and yet he comes out okay without turning to a higher power. Harry is self-reliant. He thinks for himself and has faith in himself.
So it goes a lot against Christian morality and preferred culture. But I agree, they need to look at the big problems and leave little things like people having different ideas alone.

I know what you mean! People are always on my case about reading Harry Potter too! They just assume that because they've heard its about wizardry that its of the devil. Helloo...Its a fictional story! It has good morals and stuff in it too! It has that good overcoming evil ring to it, friendship, love, justice, and all that good stuff. Some of those people who think they are so godly by not reading these "evil, satanic" books could actually learn from it instead of judging everything by its cover! I love Harry Potter books and wish people would just give them a chance they would love them too.

The use or suggested use of magic in any literature or entertainment value, is highly offensive to some religious conservatives.
As a former morman, I was told that any power not associated with prayer was from the devil.
It is a rampant stamping out of the resurgence of interest in magic in our modern world.

Because magic is of the Devil. And there is more fact than fiction in the spiritual world from those Harry Potter books.

No big deal. Some woman brought a lawsuit to keep them off library shelves, but she lost her case. Since then, nothing. As to mere opinon, people are welcome to ther opinions and some people have strange opinions. To me,they are children's books and i never heard of fairy tales that didn't a lot about the supernatural. It's just fundies,so relax. Catholics have nothing against it.

They have very small minds and can't really see what's important. Also, since Harry is becoming a wizard, they somehow think it will teach everyone who reads it how to be a wizard.

It is about wizardry , that with all the other things like astrology ,divination, enchanter ,witch ,charmer ,necromancer are all a abomination to God ( in which he hates and is disgusting to him )which are satan influenced. Why not read the bible instead ?
