I have been driving the same route to work for nearly 17 years. During that time I have thrown bottles, rope, food wrappers, boxes, cans, old newspapers, rags, wood, motor oil containers, old shoes and boots, and lots of other stuff out the window of my car. But after all this time, the highway still looks the same as it always did....not one bit worse. So where is the need for the litter laws and fines?

No they aren't needed. The things you mentioned that you have thrown out of your car are mostly absorbed by the earth. It is NOT polluting, but in fact HELPING the earth, by replenishing needed minerals and nutrients into the earth's soil. Anything that isn't absorbed can be picked up by your local prison's workforce. Maybe, you'll see Michael Vick in the near future.

I absolutely feel that the anti-littering law must b introduced. And i agree to all the people who say tht with the corruption level in india it might just help the officials to get richer by taking bribes..... i even agree to a lot of people who say tht the educated people litter, so its difficult to teach the uneducated ones. The solution to this problem is having a dust-bin at every few INCHES around the city. Whereas i don't see dust-bins in public areas for miles together. There should be dust-bins in each and every train compartment, at every few steps in a mall. And the punishment for littering should be very high and serious. Infact i've seen the goverment officials littering the city much more than the regular citizens also! Tommorrow when the streets are flooded, we are the people who walk through all the garbage thrown around by all the intelligent people..... yuuuuuuccccckkkkkkkk!!!!! I think for this or rather any city to improve, first the people who run the admin must improve. For example the BMC garbage trucks are open from the top and front and half the garbage is dropping on the road before it reaches the dump yard! Places like Singapore, US all have a proper garbage truck which is enclsosed from everwhere! Imagine a lady travelling in FIRST CLASS, well dressed, spik and span, eats an apple and throws the balance out of the window! Would she do this in her own house!!!!! No never!!!! Then why don't we think of the city as our house? If we don't litter in our home, why should we that on the roads?

A few months ago there was a woman KILLED while driving on the freeway and some debris came through her windshield and impaled her. It's amazing what a small item will do to a person at 70 mph!

I also hope that you never move next door to my home. I'll bet your yard looks like a junkyard. Wait .... my yard would be your junkyard.

It may look the same to you, but littering laws aren't only in effect to make everything look prettier - otherwise, it would be legal to litter in ugly places. The fact is that littering is unquestionably bad for the environment and can destroy habitats for wildlife, in addition to destroying natural beauty. That motor oil container may not be seen again, but it could kill animals who try to make their home in it and get into the water supply.

Hey, why don't you give us your plate # so we can track you down and fine you? IDK about where you live, in my county that's a #1,000 fine for littering... So that's atleast $11,000 that you owe your local government (probably about double that and then some, since you list plural of everything).

Throwing non-biodegradeable things out the window is a hazard to the environment... Animals may try to eat them, and it will mess up their digestive systems, creating potentially fatal problems (ESPECIALLY where the oil containers are concerned). Plus it just looks plain ugly... Wouldn't you rather see the environment in its quasi-natural state, rather than it being hidden by pigs who think the world is their trashcan, and figure someone else will clean up for them?

Oh wait. THAT PIG IS YOU.

Littering is really bad for the environment and is really bad for the community if it is allowed to build up. Therefore the litter has to be cleaned up. This littering costs each state approximately 1 million dollars a year. Those are your taxes and your hard earned money.

Wow, wow, wow. First I'd like to say, stop littering you moron! Not only is it illegal ($250 fine?), but it is terrible for our enviroment! It isn't about how the highway LOOKS, most of it is blown away by wind anyways, but haven't you heard of animals choking on plastic bags, etc.? In addition to killing animals you also aren't recycling, which is a waste of resources. Ouch, you are killing me. The highway may look the same, but it really isn't.

It looks the same either because there's a bunch of inconsiderate litterbugs like you, or because someone goes along the road and picks up your trash.

Newsflash - the road is not your personal trash can. Too bad you haven't been caught and fined.

I live in the country and there are signs posted for no littering, so we have laws where I live but how do you enforce them

Because someone else has to pick up your trash that you threw out. Some of them get paid to do it. You might not see these people, but they exist. Someone has to pay them. Some of these things could cause accidents.
