personally i think you would give the $600 to the bride and groom so they can handle the bill. i am not up on this type of tradition, but it seems like it would make the most sense. no need for you to worry about anything. :) that is very thoughtful of you.

For above posters "sponsoring" by family members to help pay for a wedding is traditional in some cultures, especially spanish. Whether you pay for your own wedding or not has nothing to do with how ready you are to be married.

Anywhoo...whatever amount you are able to afford for the alcohol give the the bride and groom now or pay directly to the vendor who is handling the bar. If you tell them to just give you a bill later you may end up with something costing more money than you had planned on spending. If for some reason the alcohol bill goes over the $600 you have told them you will give it's their problem, not yours.

So she wants you to be the "Padrinos" de Liquor? And you have to pay for the entire $600? If you do that's a whole lot! Don't let her make you pay the entire amount, help them out with maybe half of the amount. And don't go out of your way to buy it. Give them the money and let them buy it themselves.

congrats? first of i dont get the sponsoring thing - i think if the bride and groom cant afford a wedding they shouldnt have it outside of their budget. aND this isn't a question - its a statement what do you want to know?
