Hope you pinched off their pointy ends as well.
Snap them in half, place in water, boil for about 5 minutes. Or place in a steamer for about 7.
Steaming is best. When steaming make a thin layer of the beans so that all of them get steamed. leaving them in for about 7 minutes will make them cooked but firm, without them losing the nutrients too much,

I'm assuming you wanted the boiling with ham recipe above, but here's a yummy one for another day maybe:
Some sesame seeds
Sesame Oil
Minced Garlic
Steamed Green Beans ( still kinda crisp)
First in a nonstick skillet (no oil or anything) toast the sesame seeds. Once they are light brown and smell slightly nutty add about a tbsp or so of Sesame Oil and minced garlic. heat until you can tell the Garlic is cooked (about 1 or 2 minutes depending on the temperature) remove from stove, add hot steamed green beans and toss. Yummy and HEALTHY!!!!

Cut into 1 to 1 1/2 inch pieces. Bring salted water to cover to a boil. Boil gently for 8 to 10 minutes for thoroughly cook beans. For some crunch cook for less time. For nice green color, immediately plunge into ice cold water for a minute or two.

you could blanche them in boiling water for 3-5 minutes, then shock them in ice water if they're for a cold salad, or you could do a very simple sautee.
Sauteed Green Beans
1 1/2 pounds green beans
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablesoons butter
1/2 cup of water
Trim ends of beans. In large skillet melt butter and add beans, garlic and water. Stir and cook quickly over high heat until tender.

You can just boil or steam them.
Green Bean Casserole:
30 oz (equal to two store bought cans of green beans, if that helps) Green Beans
I can Campbells cream of mushroom soup
-Mix these two together, and add pepper to liking
-Bake at 350 for 15 minutes, then add French's French Fried onions on top and bake for an additional 5 minutes.

Do you have bacon or ham??? Break your beans into 2" pieces,,,just guess. Brown your meat for a few minutes and add beans to the kettle or large pot, add water. Put on a low heat and cook forever..Do you want them crisp or done like in a can....After 1 hours check them, turn the heat up a little. Check them in 1 hour, fo they need more water...keep checking them and add your water 1 cup at a time...It can take all afternoon...or so it seems...

I have a wonderful way to make green beans that's really easy but knocks the socks off of everyone who eats them!
Keep them whole, break off the ends and toss with a bit of GOOD olive oil, some garlic powder, rosemary, marjoram, thyme and oregano.
Scatter them on a cookie sheet and bake them for about 30 minutes. They should look a little wrinkled and browned around the edges.
Toss with a bit of roasted sesame seeds and serve immediately... YUUUUUMMMM and way too easy!

Well there are a number of ways, that you can cook them. You can make them in a steamer, or boil them in water. If you burn them in water, let the water boil then put the green beans in.

just put them in a pan of water and cook on medium heat for about 10 mins.
all your trying to do is heat them thru , take one out after about 6 mins. and taste it ...it should still be slightly crisp when biting it but not hard or mushy
i like to put a tablespoon of butter and a pinch of salt in the water while cooking them ....but you dont have to
