A new guy moved into our flat the other day, and we were talking about movies and I mentioned what my favourite one was, but he thought it was a stupid movie and continously took the piss out of me about it for the whole evening. I think he was trying to be funny, but I found it offensive and rather rude, especially considering he only moved into our flat a few days ago and I've only talked to him once before.
Am I being silly?

Yea, I think so. That's a little over sensitive. It's a movie, so let it go. It's not like he was talking smack about your mom!
Don't create drama. Give him a break. He is just trying to make conversation and probably doesn't know what else to talk about.

It's okay for him to not like the same movie as you. But he was not tactful in the way he said it. He could have just said, "I didn't enjoy that movie at all" or something like that.
If he kept on going on about it the whole evening, he was being rude and you are not silly.
Beyond small talk, I would be very unlikely to make conversation with him in the future.

Well, the definition of rudeness is pretty much insulting people by the way you act without necessarily meaning to. If he made you feel that irritated, he was probably being rude in a subtle way... he's probably one of those people that doesn't understand when something stops being funny and starts being insulting.

No, he was being rude. He may not have very refined social skills, so he may have thought he was being charming, or being part of the group. If that sort of behavior continues, you should say something to him. If that doesn't work, stop hanging out with him.

you're not being silly, i would totally be upset as well. however b/c you are now living together, just try to let it slide. but if something similar happens again, call him out on it in front of everyone. chances are he'll feel pretty dumb and quit acting like a jerk.

nope ur not being silly. this guy just pretty much went overboard on one comment you made. he might of thought it was funny, but it was definatley too much to say when he JUST moved in a couple days ago.

Well if he did not like the movie, that is his opinion. But he did not need to haggle you about it. Yes he was very rude.

I can understand him ribbing you once, but going on and on about it all evening is boring. Sounds like an insecurity issue on his part.
