I just put all the ingredients in the pot for the cabbage soup diet soup, are you suppose to add any water? None of the recipes I looked at said to add any water. Just wondering. Thanx :)

You're supposed to add water; otherwise, how are you going to come up with the liquid in the soup? Veggies don't have much water content, you'll just be eating/seeing mixed veggies in a pot.

I make a wonderful healthy cabbage soup and the main liquid I use is chicken broth and canned tomatoes. I add onions, garlic, celery, water chestnuts, beans and pretty much anything I have lying around. Sometimes I let it cook down to where it's more like a relish than a soup. Either way, it is very low in calories. When I was really dieting, i would have a small bowl while I was cooking and it always stopped me from picking from the things I shouldn't have been eating.

Yes!

Just enough so you can see it down there amongst the cabbage.

I would guess that onion, celery and perhaps a bay leaf figure into the soup and maybe a peppercorn or two (traditional). Feel free to perk it up with chicken stock or (if you're 'vegging') a vegetable stock.

One tip: Don't overcook. Too many people boil the dickens out of their cabbage making it limp, grey and lifeless. Just simmer until everything is pretty tender (the way you like it), and enjoy!

Best wishes!

you need water to make the broth - hence "soup"
