I have recently read that 1 in 150 children are diagnosed with autism which is significantly higher than the 1 in 166 that has become the common figure. At this rate we could eventually see 1 in 25 children diagnosed or perhaps one day even 1 in 4. If we can't figure out what causes this or how to cure it, it could one day overwhelm us as a nation if not a species.

Do you think that this could ever be a possibility and if so what could we do about it?

No... we are getting better at diagnosing, and what is more indicative of the higher diagnosis is that we are now diagnosing "high-fuctioning" autism and Asperger's as an autistic spectrum diagnosis, wheres before, kids were consisdered MR, mentally ill, or anger issues (Asperger's kids). Autism is genetic, so I think the numbers will even out as we go into the future... who knows...maybe those numbers will go down when people figure how to diagnose in the womb and abort.

I think it is caused by the MMR vaccine which is not given at birth, but at 13 months. I saw a Senate Hearing with a lot of parents who think their child developed autism right after the vaccine, some even came home and started banging their head on the wall immediately. I believe these parents 100%. I did not give my children any vaccines until they went into public school. My doctor told me I could be held liable for child abuse for not giving them the shots, but I felt I was well informed and I had read every study available on this subject prior to 1991 and many have found that the mercury in vaccines does cause brain damage and damage to the immune system.

It's little wonder there is an increase in autism. There is a statistical link between autism and caesarean birth. Doctors have found that C-sections are now really safe and easy, so that even in pregnancies that are only slightly complicated, C-sections are preferred--especially since it is so easy to eliminate scars nowadays.

The biggest problem with accepting the link between C-sections and autism is that it validates none other than Bruno Bettelheim who insisted that birth trauma makes a baby predisposed to develop autism during the "terrible twos."

On the news the other day, Scientists are finally speaking up and questioning if ALL thoses immunizations in Early childhood are more harmful and not in the best interest of the child...(multiple ones given together or one after another and another).Maybe theres hope for the future generations if they change the laws. Guarantee you its the only way to see Autism rates DECLINE!

I believe that Autism is caused by the vaccination that you get when your born. There is something new that doctors are putting in the vaccines. That is why other generations have not been affected by this. It is not in your genes or hereditary by any means whatsoever. If you care anything about your children or your children's children then DO NOT GET THEM VACCINATED at birth.

wow that is really scary
well i think that before anything could be done we need to figure out the causes
and put in on the list of things the human race needs to do so the whole world won't burst into flames because of what they started

That's a pretty statistically insignificant change, and there is no reason to assume it will keep growing. I think a new swine flu epidemic is far more threatening, and that millions and perhaps even billions will die when it comes (not if it comes).

Some blame the MMR vaccines- they contain Mercury which is very toxic

Its already happening.

How common is "ADD"? Pretty much one step shy, isnt it?

But seriously... Apathy is the threat. Quit indulging your children and they might actually start caring.

geez, overreact why don't you? there are other diseases and conditions that are far worse. I think the change in number is because autistic have been misdiagnosed in the past. I don't think it's becoming more prevalent.
