A husband a wife rent an apartment and have two school aged kids. Let's say, the family sold a possession and received a considerable amount of money for it, let's say, $3,500. The wife wants the husband to use the money to pay off debt he accrued prior to their marriage, so that they may be able to raise his credit rating and be in a better position to purchase a home.

The husband desires to use the money to put towards the purchase of hunting equipment for his upcoming hunting trip, and whatever is leftover, he will use to pay on the credit card debt he owes. The estimated amount that will be the balance after the husband makes his purchases will be about $400.

So obviously the woman is the voice of logic and reason in this scenario, but what is proper for her to do as a religion follower with a man lacking in common sense? Should she blindly submit to his selfish desires when they have a family to consider, and he is the one with the debt that needs resolution?

My mother was undisputed head of our household. She handled all of the money. I am the same way. Confidant and dominant. Oh yeah, I'm an atheist, a liberal and a feminist. There is no way I'm submissive to any man.

Two school-age children, and they still have debt from prior to their marriage?

So was there a divorce, and the children from a previous marriage? or has this debt been hanging around for 5-6 years? How much interest on this debt has he already paid? Does he understand the concept of compounded interest?

The family sold something, so he could buy hunting equipment . . . for an upcoming hunting trip??

Does he want to hunt, or does he want to live in an apartment for the rest of his life?

She's right, he's wrong. Biblically, when he's not acting in a Godly way, she has no reason to follow him, and in fact, would be a bigger fool than he is.

In my Church (Catholicism) men and women are viewed as equal partners in the marriage...a marriage can't work if the couple don't understand the priorities...If i was in this situation I would pay off the debt and talk some sense into that man!

Wow, in that case I would fight tooth and nail. And yes, I am a Christian.

The Bible says that wives are supposed to "submit" to their husbands, but it also says that the husband is supposed to love, respect, honor, and be willing to sacrifice for their wife. If the husband is not upholding his end of the agreement, I see no reason for a wife to submit to that.

You don't mention how much his debt is, how much is earned or how often he goes on these trips. I see no problem with him going on the occasional hunting trip. If it's EVERY weekend - then we would have an issue.

There is obviously something amiss here, other than what meets the eye. Tell us that, and clarify your problem.
