The caffeine in coffee is a mild diuretic, but moderate consumption of coffee has no greater effect than that seen with plain water. Decaffeinated coffee contains minimal amounts of caffeine and will therefore also have no greater effect on fluid loss than water.
Caffeine inhibits an enzyme that is thought to regulate mucosal secretions in your small intestine. Secretions go up, so fluid in your bowel goes up, and if the amount of fluid in your colon is greater than the amount of fluid you can reabsorb, you get diarrhea, or at least looser stools.

As a friend (who's also a nurse) told me, it's the combination of caffeine and heat which are both stimulants and get the ol' bowels moving.
She also told me that if you're constipated, coffee and a cigarette really helps. But that's neither here nor there.

Hot liquids tend to stimulate the bowels, maybe you should drink iced coffee instead.

caffeine is a natural diuretic and a stimulant ... it has quite a bit more caffeine than soda but I've heard people tell me this happens to them if they drink a regular coke.

Coffee's got stuff in it that makes you wanna go. Caffeine gets stuff agitated and moving...dunno if it's healthy, though!
