Hi!
I'm finally ready to buy a really good flat iron. It's GHD and costs $220

http://www.folica.com/ghd_Professiona_r2099_1.html

But right now I have my $50 Conair one. Both of these flat irons are ceramic, but GHD claims to work realllly well.

Does anyone know why the more expensive flat iron does a better job (apparently) if they both seem to be made of the same things?

Thanks :)

like I said. my $50 is ceramic and it does straighten my hair well, but it freezes in humidity and usually doesn't stay super straight all day long anyway. The reviews for GHD claim that GHD keeps your hair straight even in humidity.

well Great Value Products (GVP) has a knock off Chi straightener... that works great.. you can purchase them at sallys But they are about $60 the Conair basic yellow and black one works well too it is about $20 .. the key when choosing a straightener choose one that is smaller no more than 1 inch and only a 1/2 if you have shorter hair.. also you need to take slow passes You also need to pick up a thermal protector to use before you put that flat iron in your hair to protect it and helps keep it straight and smooth

honestly, i have owned SO many flat irons to know the difference. right now i own a $39 and it really works great. the only thing that truly makes some flat irons better than others is the hotter the better. i do advise wearing heat protectant though.

Because they are ceramic... and ceramic ones get WAY hotter. Also, look at the cord thickness of both flat irons. I bet the more expensive one has a thicker cord which allows for more electricity to make it hotter.

You can go to the site of the GHD and see what it has to offer, and then go to conair and find your straightener and see what that one has to offer. Then you can compare :]

cheap straigheners are really crappy. i got one for $20 but it fried my hair and didn't straighten it at all.
but salon quality straighteners are really a good buy if you frequently straighten your hair.
plus, cheaper ones are usually metal, which would be why it fries your hair, while good ones, more expensive ones, are ceramic. and long lasting. you could probably get a nice on for around 80 dollars, rather than over $200!

You get what you pay for....Actually it dosen't, I have a cheapy flat iron, and it works really good, and I have thick Curly hair and it straightens my hair out really good. Just really depends on how hot your flat Iron goes..

They get hotter, so they'll be ready in less time and you'll use less time straightening your hair. Some are also wet/dry straigtheners so you don't even have to blow-dry your hair or wait for it to dry first.

Baby that is with anything...people think that if it cost more it is of better quality...I disagree...
