The remote turn-on wire would be connected to an external amplifier or power antenna. It activates external components when the CD player is switched on.

when you say car cd player I take it you mean a head unit, the remote wire is basicaly a switch wire these are normaly used to send a signal to a relay to make an electic arial work, or if you have amps switch the amp on,

if you wish to run your car radio/cd as a home system you also need to think about a power suply, by the time you have bought that, plus speakers etc you will probably be better off with a midi system.

By the time you've bought a regulated power supply and worked out how to overcome the speaker impedance mis match you might as well just by a house hold system.
But yes, the wire you are asking about is a switched output for an electric aerial or an amp

Since a dvd player, that also plays cds, can be purchased for less than $30 any day of the week, why bother?

that would be for an amp, as i guess your not going to try and hook that up as well then just leave it, hope your using 12 volt supply!
