My girlfriend, who I've been living with for over a year now, recently told me that her father is associated with a local underground crime organization that I didn't even know existed. As far as I know he doesn't do anything really terrible like hurting people, but he's still doing illegal things.

On top of that, my girlfriend completely idolizes her dad, and thinks he's a great guy, so I can't really avoid associating with him from time to time, even though I don't like him at all.

I really love my girlfriend, but this is a major problem. What would anyone do in this situation?

I think your good to go. You've been with her for over a year now. You've lasted and proved yourself to her. I don't think she would have told you otherwise. If she told you this much, do you think she would tell you what her father's business is? I think so, if it bothers you. She loves her dad and that is not going to change, but she loves you too. Focus on that; you aren't dating her father, and for the past year everything has been cool right? Well then. Just do what you do; its been working so far, get the low down on pops, either love her or leave her alone, and very important, it seems to me that she is very much a Daddy's girl so don't piss her off!

Unless you're planning to marry the girlfriend, I'd suggest getting out now. No matter what, she will always be part of a crime family, and that will always place her at risk, even if she chooses not to participate in the illegal activities. She isn't willing to cut ties with her family, so eventually you will be dragged into the family, and they may not give you a choice about staying innocent and uninvolved.
Yes, you love her - but what is your love worth if you're willing to sell your honor and do what you know is wrong to keep that love?

Be careful! My great uncle was associated with something like that.. and i guess now someone he knew is looking for his kids.. Dont piss her off because like someone else said she sounds like a daddy's girl.. dont hurt her at all cuz the dad will more than likely end up hurting you.. If you want to since uve been with her for a year u can try to say something to her but not in front of him, but i wouldnt if i were u..

well you don't want to report her dad because of your girlfriend, and you don't want to do anything stupid because the mafia...yeahh. Even though he's doing illegal things, hes not hurting/killing people which is well better for lack of a better word. If you don't want to report him and want to stay with your girlfriend I would just associate with him as little as you can and don't get on his bad side.

If you have any issues, talk to your girlfriend or ask her to keep you away from her Dad as you do not appreciate anyone doing illegal things. Since she idolizes her Dad, she will not like it so set some groundrules like not to get her Dad in any topics that you'll discuss and try to avoid meeting him as much as you can.

First, don't mess anything up with the girlfriend because then her father could start hurting people and you could be the first victim. Second, talk to her about your unsure feelings about her dad and how you don't want to have nothing to do with him or his underground dealings.

Are you sure she is not trying to scare you off as a way of breaking up.

I had a girl tell me she was terminally ill after spending a weekend at her college. I felt terrible for her, but thought about how badly the weekend had actually gone for us and figure she just did not want me to stay in touch.
