Save the gas, save the rent Caribana is on. The long weekend at this time of year is crappola.

One day you can go to the Toronto Islands on the ferry at the base of Bay Street and Harbourfront. That's cheap and if you go over to Hanlan's point its like taking a tour.
The next you can head for High Park for a hike.
And another day you can head for the Royal Ontario Museum. Its like having a vacation without the hassle.
Another method what a couple of friends tried a few years ago is to find a moderate cost hotel and spend the weekend there. EconoLodge on Jarvis or the Downtowner on Pembroke Street south of Gerrard at Allen Gardens are cheap and close to downtown. Rent for the weekend and pretend that you are in a different place. Bring a couple of bikes.
The nice thing about Toronto is that there are simply so many parts of the city that are so different you can actually have a cheap holiday and pretend that you are on the travel without ever having to go through the hassle of travel.

You can go to Niagra falls, visit the wine country nearby or go to Kingston where all the islands are.
