What exactly are the purposes of a drag link?

It is connected to the Pittman arm on the power steering box on one end and the right or passenger side steering knuckle near the right wheel on the other.
Yes, eventually it will wear on the ball joints on each ends...Make sure it stays greased. This is NOT unusual wear as many vehicles have this arrangement.

It pushes the steering knuckle and the other link pulls along the right side steering knuckle and wheel. And that is where the steering damper gets bolted.
