If one drinks water only for a day but no food, can pounds be lost?

You have to eat 3500 fewer calories than you burn off in order to lose weight, so that presumably, if you didn't eat at all for about two days, you could lose one pound. The catch is that when you don't eat at all, your metabolism thinks you are starving yourself and slows down to prevent your doing that, so even this wouldn't work.

In addition, it takes longer than a day to digest everything in your system, so the impact wouldn't be noticed for a few days, if there was any. Also, if you don't eat for an entire day you are likely to be so hungry that you overeat the next day to make up for it, so there would be no long term effect.

To successfully lose weight, you must carry out
a plan to balance your caloric intake with exercise.
Ideally, dieting should be done by eating a nutritionally
balanced, low-calorie diet and increasing physical activity.

No, because when you finally DO eat, your body will store the food as fat because you did not eat. Bottom line, it is not good for you.
