Melchizedek Preist sounds like a pretty impressive title especially in light of how Melchizedek was described in the Bible , yet I see these kids on bikes barely out of High School claiming the "Authority of the Melchizedek Preisthood". I dont see anything so special about them that would deserve such a title.

Can you be a "Melchizedek Priest" without serving a mission? Serving a church is not necessarily serving God. I heard here on Answers that the Parents of these kids have to pay money also. I also understand that there is an extensive support network that they can rely opon to assist them.

It sounds to me that the Mormon church just throws around Titles without any consideration of what the Title really means. Prophet? Apostle? Melchizedek Priest? Aaronic Priest? Elder? Deacon? Investigator? Anti-Mormon? Apostate? Of course the title I am not seeing here is "Sinner saved by Grace. "
I wonder why?

Taking bits and pieces out of the bible and making a religion out of it does not make it blessed by God. Pride is what causes people to need titles. Humble Christ like spirits take a lower seat.

First, you don't become a "Melchizedek Priest"...there are a few levels of the Priesthood - Aaronic and Melchizedek. No, you do not have to go on a mission to be ordained to the Melchizedek Preisthood, that is just usually when the young men are because you must hold that priesthood to be able to attend the temple and missionaries receive their endowment in the temple before they leave on their mission.
You must be found to be a worthy member of the church, living the standards the Lord has set forth, this is through an interview with the bishop and stake president. A person (men only of course) is "ordained" to the Priesthood by those who already hold the Priesthood, an Aaronic Priesthood holder cannot ordain a person to the Melchizedek Priesthood but a Melchizedek holder can ordain a person to the Aaronic Priesthood.
We learn the Melchizedek Priesthood is basically the power on earth to act in God's name, as if He were using the same power Himself. This higher priesthood comes with great blessings and great responsibility.
You can learn more at LDS.org or speak with some missionaries.

Whether you think the young missionaries should hold the Melchizedek Priesthood is moot. The qualifications are:
1. Repentance, baptism, and then laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
2. Confirmation into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
3. Worthy, as determined by the ward bishopric, to be ordained to the lesser priesthood, the Aaronic Priesthood, and established as a deacon, a teacher, or a priest.
4. After tenure and worthiness, determined by the bishopric, ordained to the office of elder within the Melchizedek Priesthood.
5. Higher callings and ordinations within this same priesthood requires worthiness as determined by the bishop and the stake president.

I've never heard of a melchezidec priest. All missionarys are in the calling and quarum of Elder. There is Elder, High priest, bishopbric, the stake presadancy, the presiding bishops. the quarums of the seventy, the quorm of the twelve, the first presadancy, and the prophet. These are the titles and callings of the melchezidic priesthood.

Well those young boy are 19-23+ years old who dedicate 2 years of their lives to doing only missionary work. They are not paid and volunteer their time. Often these boys save there money and pay for everything they do except the plane ride to and from their mission.
They give up dating for 2 years (19-23+ years old!!!!!!! -- no dating)
No swimming, no horseback riding, etc.
they get 12 hours to themselves a week and the rest of the time serving God.
You don't see anything special about them -- get your eyes checked!
