Well, Ms. idealhouseex-wife, here's how it is with me. I love to smell fishy. I love to get my worm wet, pulling it out occasionally to check it for nibbles. Sometimes, just for a little change, I'll even use soft plastics to entice my prey. I like to play them sometimes, but I'm usually pretty direct. I'll show them what I have and if they bite, then great. If they don't bite, then I'll offer my worm to the next fish.
To directly answer your question about our attraction to fishing, I'd have to say that mine is the sport of the whole thing. Sometimes you catch something you're happy about taking home and even take photos to remember the moment. Sometimes you are happy that something's biting your worm, no matter what it is.
You have to remember that it's all just for fun and do the best you can with it.
Oh, listening to a fish nag is completely out of the question.
Have a nice day and remember to always hold your fishing rod tightly.

Fishing is like sex!
You start out with foreplay!
You work your rig slowly around the lake looking for the spot that you can use your favorite lure to entice or exite the fish!
The act!
Working slowly up to a point then setting the hook hard and fast pumping the rod until the fish is boated!
Sitting back exhausted after a full battle with a gleem in your eye you then prepare yourself to being ready to catch another!

To be out side with nature, quiet, relaxation. Sport, the fight of the fish. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Called fishing, not catching. Anticipation, waiting for the strike and battle. Instills patience. Food, good to eat. Now, how would you like me to fix that yellowtail snapper for you?

Besides his constant bragging about his being bigger than everyone elses, I bet your ex now says a good one got away from him.
It seems like you were a good catch after all.

Plus it's a lot of fun.
