OF THE ABBRIVIATED WORDS A LOT OF PEOPLE USE THESE DAYS? I GET TIRED TRYING TO WORK MOST OF THEM OUT ON THIS FORUM. IS THIS A SIGN OF LAZINESS, IGNORANCE OR BAD TEACHING OR IS IT A TREND WITH THE YOUNG ONES THESE DAYS?

I believe it started with online chatting to help show emotions since that is very hard to do without seeing the person speaking.

But now it has evolved even farther because of text messaging. It's faster and cheaper to send fewer letters. I grade test papers at a high school. Whenever I run into those abbreviations I tell the teacher and then they talk to the student to tell them not to do it again. It must be in proper word form. If they keep getting away with it, they will just keep on doing it.

I think a lot of it is laziness...I know a good chunk of them, only because I play online games where people constantly bombard the chat channels with LOL and PWN

Its also just a trend, but if we are going to touch on ignorance and bad teaching, didn't anyone tell you that capital letters are rather rude??

1. Theyve been texting too long and forgot how to spell.
or
2. School never taught them how to spell and so they use phonics.

I hate those abbreviated questions and comments, too.
