What can I do about heartburn? I seem to be getting it an awful lot these days. I take Rennie and bicarb and they work for a while but it comes back.

What causes it and how can I get rid of it?

You need to see your doctor. Chronic heartburn can lead to esophageal bleeding and gastrointestinal disorders. Gastrointestinal Reflux Disease (GERD) aka heartburn is easily treatable with prescription medication. Until you can get to the doctor, try an OTC med such has Prilosec or Zantac. You may also find a little relief if you stay sitting up for 1-2 hours after meals and not eating too close to bedtime. Try to cut down on caffeine as well and anything acidic (certain juices).
But definately see your doctor.

I used to suffer with bad heartburn. I found that if I avoid too many carbs and avoid caffeine in the evenings I rarely suffer. Too much beer can give me heartburn too.

Prilosec works wonderfully. So does ranitidine, generic for zantac. Give these a shot, and get some relief.
