what i really need to know is if I bail someone out(and i don't care about losing the money or anything i put up for the bond) will i get in any legal problems. So far it's worth it because if i don't get my friend out I'm pretty sure he'll do 12-30 months in prison for 3rd offense drunk driving

If you know your friend is innocent, then do it. But, if there is a reasonable doubt, then let him ride it out. I've been arrested and my bail was set for $0. Since, your friends bail is so high, it sounds as though he has been trouble before or is being accused of something really bad. Either way, I think he probably should stay there.

You will loose the money if your friend does not comply with the bail. A word of advice. My husband was killed by a drunk driver, impaled on the steering wheel of a car. He left behind family, friends and young children forced to grow up without a father. If that drunk driver was out on bail at the time and you were the one posting bail I would personally hold you responsible for his death.

I believe you need to have an asset to put up should he choose to run...but I'll tell you this, he needs to do his time, and while in prison, take advantage of any programs they offer so that he can clean up and not be a potential hazard to his community, himself or you.
