Even though Ford got higher reviews this year by JD Power than Toyota, American companies will never outrun their bad image due to bad quality in the past. Ford will need to be twice as good as Toyota to start bringing back customers.
The biggest problem with the auto industry is the union. They ***** and moan too much and the companies pay. You don't need to go on strike because you don't make $100k! YOU STAMP METAL!!!
I wish I made 100k....and I have an engineering degree!

For most people it is simply a matter of perception. The imports are perceived as being better quality, have typically better fuel economy and higher resale values. For years the domestic auto makers have been playing catch up to the imports, but GM, Ford and Chrysler have done very poorly in the marketplace from past perceptions and have not done much in the last few years to offer new exciting products. Chrysler has done the best job being innovative, but their sales are still lacking due to the perception that the product is not as good as the imports for most people.
Believe it or not, most people don't care whether it is a US brand or otherwise, but for those who do, the imports have plants in the USA providing jobs to Americans, and using American made parts from distributers that also provide jobs in Americans.

First, the Foreign cars, especially the Japanese ones, have a better track record when it comes to maintenance. They're cheaper to own. Toyota and Honda cars tend to get better gas mileage than comparable American vehicles.
Ford has had a long standing policy when it comes to defects that kill or maim customers. If it's cheaper to pay out the lawsuits than to fix the defect, they leave the defect in place. That's right folks, if your Ford has a defect that could maim your mother, they'll leave the defect. For this reason alone, I'll NEVER buy another Ford. No other auto manufacturers have similar policies, they just fix the defects.
GM put all their R&D into SUVs for about 10 years, so ALL their other products are a good decade behind the competitors. As the SUV market shrank, so did GM's market share.

Because too many Americans forgot what made this country so great. They don't care about their Father, Mothers, and Grand Fathers who fought wars on those foreign soils just to keep our country free!
Now they are blinded by false beliefs that foreign cars are better. They read in a bought and paid for advertisement that foreign cars are better, so it must be true. The facts are that American cars are just as good, if not better than many foreign counterparts.
The sad thing is that too many people don't care about America anymore, just themselves. I feel sorry for the rest of us who care about America and what this country stands for!

The main reason why people buy more Japanese cars than American cars is because Japanese cars are better quality, are more fuel efficient, and they last longer.
And the reason why American car-makers cannot make cars as well as the Japanese is because their production expenses are higher. And because of their higher expenses, American car-makers don't have as much money to invest in engineering and manufacturing of their cars.
In Japan, the goverment provides healthcare and retirement benefits for workers a lot more than the US government does in USA. In USA, private companies shoulder a lot of this cost. This is especially true in unionized companies such as the automakers. And this means that the Japanese companies have a substantial advantage over American companies in terms of their expenses for their workforce.

number one reason is quality. all domestic are cheap made vehicles. 3 year warranty is the first hint. second is the way the engine design. all domestic vehicles design engine that is very hard for the technicians to work on. this will increase customer labor cost . the last reason is domestic cannot make good gas mileage vehicles. they sucks gasoline like it was kool-aid. if you can, stay away from delco, mopar, and motorcraft manufacture parts..
