You have a lot of information to go by, in the beginning
of your research...
First off, you know that your mother, was born in / about 1940
and that is a start. You can obtain her birth certificate, by
contacting the New York State Vital Statistics Office, in the
State Capitol City of New York. You will have to fill out an
application, and show proof, of identity...to them, too.
You can even submit a letter to the "Dear Editor" of a local
newspaper in the area where your mother was born, and
also where you were born, asking others for information,
about anyone connected to the Schroeder Name...and I'm
sure you will get a response.
You can write a letter to your mother, and take it to the
Social Security Office nearest you, and they can also tell
you whether your mother is still alive or not. If she is de-
ceased you can obtain a copy of her Social Security Card
and / or personal information as to where she worked, and
any other information pertaining to her life too...and to her
parents, who are listed on her Original Application when
she applied for a Social Security Number, and where she
lived at the time she filed for it.
You might contact the Hospital where you were born, and
ask for birth records. They should give this information to
you...unless it is closed, because of the adoption.
You do not have to tell them that you went to an adoption
home. They are more likely to give you the information, if
you don't come forth with that part of your life.
If you know the name of the Attorney, you might get them to
tell you, or allow you to have a letter ''forwarded to them".
Go to see a Librarian, and find out All the Listing Places,
where you can Register, as looking for a relative...as some-
one might be looking for you too.
You can list your registry thru the Department of Human
Services in Washington, D.C. for one of the locations...
and they can give you other pertinent information too.
Look on the internet for others by the last name of Schroeder.
I hope you find the information you are seeking.
If I can be of further help...do let me know...
Sincerely, Too Funny
