I'm so glad you'll get this chance to spend time with your son. Don't stress too much on what to do or how to impress him. The one thing a two-year old likes more than anything in the world is to have your undivided attention. You can take him to the mall or a park and have a relaxed afternoon. Ask him which way he wants to go and just let him lead. At two they are constantly being told to "hurry up", "come here" and "stop it". He will just appreciate being the star of the show.
ps: yes, two year olds LOVE the zoo and other activities. But it can be exhausting for everyone and really hard with one parent. I'm a seasoned pro and 5 hours at the zoo by myself with my son (also 2) damn near kills me.

That's great that you are beginning to spend time with your child.
You may want to try the park. Kids love the park.. and have a little picnic lunch of different types of fruits, snack, finger foods etc..so you'll know what he likes and doesn't like. Take a cartoon character ball with you and teach him how to kick the ball. After all that playing, he'll be tired. So sit back and let him lie on your chest so he can hear your heartbeat as he goes to sleep. This is setting up the bonding process. Hope this helps

Take a train ride- Thomas is cool when you are 2
Go to a zoo-
Go to the park
Museum
aquarium
pet store- do not buy anything :-)
do not be discouraged he does not know you and his mom is safety. go slow let him come to you. find out what he wants to do. a simple gift like a book to read or color in may break the ice. ask his mom to bring his special item, be it a blanket or a stuffed toy this will give him a feeling of safety. I have a three year old and it is important to let them choose a little give them some time. remember at two he is mostly non verbal and can get overwhelmed easy. let it be just the two or you.

Don't rush things.
I have a 2 1/2 year old son. His favorite things are balls (all sports), the park, the zoo, books, and trains.

2 year olds love anyone that spend time with them. Sing silly songs, look at books together, go outside for a walk, mainly just spend the whole time doing what he wants to do. Good luck.

My two year old - just turned 2 - is currently addicted to play-doh. He likes to just use the cookie cutter type things to cut out shapes.

two year olds don't sit still well, so play with him. don't expect him to come to you right away. if you can roll a ball back and forth or throw it gently, he might like that. push or pull toys are good, too. ask the person who takes care of him (his mother?) what he likes to do.

Take him shopping. Little boys love to go clothes shopping-they could do it all day long!
Then try church. Boys of that age can really bond with a parent over sitting still and quiet over a long period of time. After the mass is over, stay for extra prayers.
Cheers!
