Usually I figure I can tell by the tone, but I err on the side of caution. As with the other categories, even if the person who wrote the question is not serious, someone reading the data base later may be quite serious, and appreciate a real answer. Of course, those that are completely off the wall deserve the sharp edge of our rapier wit, don't they?

Literal's easier, so you see a lot more literal.
