jehovah's witnesses, what do you think of mormonism?

Mormonism and Jehovah's Witnesses are both self-described Christians. The religions resemble each other in very superficial ways, but their theologies are markedly different.

As individuals, many Witnesses note that adherents of Mormonism have a reputation for neighborliness and godly love which is too uncommon among self-described Christians.

(John 13:34-35) I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves.”

It is also true that Mormonism has managed to recognize a few of the obvious bible truths that continue to evade most of Christendom, such as recognizing that Jesus the Son is a distinct person from God the Father.

(Mark 13:32) Concerning that day or the hour nobody knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, but the Father.

(John 20:17) Jesus said to her: “...For I have not yet ascended to the Father. But be on your way to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God.’”

Also, it is interesting that only Jehovah's Witness and Mormonism have any real program of lay-ministry in which every adherent is encouraged to preach.

(Matthew 28:19,20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded

Jehovah's Witnesses work to spread the Good News about the Kingdom of God, and so that is the focus of their message; they do not work at targeting any specific religion. Of course, "Mormonism" is not a single religion, but the so-called 'Latter-day Saints' tolerance of holiday celebrations, warfare, and nationalism are among the beliefs which Jehovah's Witnesses feel are incompatible with true worship.

It seems best to allow Mormons themselves to describe the uniqueness of their beliefs regarding various post-biblical holy writings, modern-day literal prophesy, the correlation between the physical and spirit realms, and the various levels of grandeur in heaven.

I have had this happen twice sort of. I am a Jehovah Witness, we were rebuilding our Kingdom Hall in Massachusetts just across from the Mormon temple. The Mormons, were kind enough to offer their PARKING LOT FOR OUR USE. We had all ready made arrangements through the Regional Building Committee of course. The point is, People all people attempting to be True Christians would always greet each other kindly. And work opposite sides of the street! LOL

This is a very interesting question. I have visited with the Jehovah Witnesses for a year, and my brother is a Mormon.
After much conversation and study on both subjects, I can tell you that, even though both organizations absolutely refute each other, there are so so many similarities in their belief systems including how they were founded in the first place. These two denounce each other and claim that only they are the true church of God........interesting...

I honestly would have to say I don't know allot about it, from what I have gathered there are varying branches of Mormonism, so it is possible that what I have heard, if correct, might not even be correct for all of them. I do firmly believe that ANYONE who learns about a faith, decides to peacefull follow it, IE, not give in to the crowd but remain firm, should be respected.

Ultimately I think Mormon's are mostly like everyone alive, people doing what they do because they feel it is the right thing to do.

I am a Jehovah's Witness and have great respect for Mormons. I had a good friend when I was younger that was Mormon.

I respect their love of family and that they on the most part live a clean moral life as a christian should. I also respect that they do some door to door evangilizing. I was driving through Salt Lake a few years back and saw a big billboard with four or five men on it, dressed differently, contractor, office worker etc... and it said "Real men don't need porn". I thought that was great! I have told several people about it.

There are obviously differences with doctrinal teachings, that I do not agree with.

By the way, someone said that we are a "work" based religion....how would you explain James 2: 20-26 "But do you care to know, O empty man, that faith apart from works is inactive? Was not Abraham our father declared righteous by works after he had offered up Isaac his son upon the alter? You behold that his faith worked along with his works and by his works his faith was perfected. and the scripture was fulfilled which say: "Abraham put faith in Jehovah, and it was counted to him as righteousness, " and he came to be called "Jehovah's friend." You see that a man is to be declared righteous by works, and not by faith alone. In the same manner was not also Rahab the harlot declared righteous by works, after she had received the messengers hospitably and sent them out by another way? Indeed, as the body without spirit is dead, so also FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD."

How can you have true faith and not have works to go along with it?

To start, I'm LDS/Mormon so I'll answer the first part of your quesiton. On my mission I talked to quite a few Witnesses. I'm not home much so I haven't really had a discussion with any since then. I think most of them are great people who try their best to live how they believe they should. I respect that a lot, especially when they get grief over blood transfusion and birthdays. Why other people care about that is beyond me. I don't interpret the scriptures the same way they do though I think they are closer to the gospel than a lot of other sects.

11. We claim the priveledge of worshiping the Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience and allow all men the same privelege, let them worship how, where or what they may.

That is official LDS doctrine. It is the 11 Article of faith.

As for myself, I don't completely understand or agree with all their teachings, but that is why I am not a JW. They have the right to believe how they will and I will not stop them. I respect that right and I will respect their beliefs. As long as they are respectful of me and they are good decent people then their religious teachings don't matter to me.

You know.....this is what's wrong with the world; everybody is always trying to find fault in something or someone who's different than they are.

We all have freedom of choice, we all live in a country that allows us to worship however we please......so why the question? Do you have that much time on your hands?

I have a JW aunt who keeps looking down my Mormon books and things I have related to the church and she thinks htat I am lost and will not go to heave. I respect the JWs, I may not agree with all their beliefs but they deserve respect too.

Oh, and I understand that not all JWs would be like my aunt, I've met many nice JW people.

ladylove, you are funny. Wrong, but funny.
I think that they have the same chance that the L.D.S. do to make it into heaven. I don't agree with some of the beliefs, but understand them. My Grandmother is a Jehovah's Witness.
