He will be fine, he will be in good hands. That's what these people do every day, of every year. Take good care of animals. He will be better off being at the hotel. The people there will treat him well and keep him happy. I hope this helps and I hope you have a nice time in Europe too.

As long as your dog is going to a good kennel,he will likely be fine.
Be sure to leave his favorite blankets and toys at the kennel with him and tell them what he eats (leave enough of his food if they don't have it) and what kind of treats they should give him.
Try to call the place every week to find out how he is doing. He will miss you too, but you will be reunited when you get back and both be happy again. Have a good trip, as long as your dog is being taken care of, there is no reason for you to worry. Being sad to leave him is a sign that you are a good pet owner, that's what every dog should have, I certainly wouldn't make fun of you, that's exactly the way it should be.

I understand exactly what you are feeling. My family and I love our dog and our four cats lots and lots, also. We do not thankfully have to leave them for a great deal of time, but we do occationally have to be away for business or vacations.
We generally have two different places we can take our dog, both doggie hotels, and she loves it and a has a lot of fun there. Your dog will have a blast, the people are wonderful who run these types of places, the animals care and safety is their number one priority.
We have the cats taken care of at home, and they get spoiled while we are gone...our animal loving friends tend to give in more to the begging for snacks....
You have to remember that although our dogs do miss us when we are away from them, their sense of time is vastly different from ours. That is why dogs act just as excited if we've been away from them for five minutes or five hours.
Have a fantastic trip to Europe and know that your dog will be having a wonderful vacation too, playing and being pampered and making new friends.

Having a trained dog isn’t the same as having a balanced dog, but if your dog knows a few basic commands, it can be helpful when tackling problem behaviors — existing ones or those that may develop in the future. Learn here https://tr.im/rn8fI
So where do you start with dog obedience training? You could take a class, but it’s not necessary; you can do it yourself. In fact, with the right attitude, it can be fun for both you and your dog!
Step 1 : Sit
This is one of the easiest dog obedience commands to teach, so it’s a good one to start with.
• Hold a treat close to your dog’s nose.
• Move your hand up, allowing his head to follow the treat and causing his bottom to lower.
• Once he’s in sitting position, say “Sit,” give him the treat, and share affection.
Repeat this sequence a few times every day until your dog has it mastered. Then ask your dog to sit before mealtime, when leaving for walks, and during other situations where you’d like him calm and seated.
Step 2 : Come
This command can help keep a dog out of trouble, bringing him back to you if you lose grip on the leash or accidentally leave the front door open.
• Put a leash and collar on your dog.
• Go down to his level and say, “Come,” while gently pulling on the leash.
• When he gets to you, reward him with affection and a treat.
Once he’s mastered it with the leash, remove it — and practice the command in a safe, enclosed area.
Step 3 : Down
This can be one of the more difficult commands in dog obedience training. Why? Because the position is a submissive posture. You can help by keeping training positive and relaxed, particularly with fearful or anxious dogs.
• Find a particularly good smelling treat, and hold it in your closed fist.
• Hold your hand up to your dog’s snout. When he sniffs it, move your hand to the floor, so he follows.
• Then slide your hand along the ground in front of him to encourage his body to follow his head.
• Once he’s in the down position, say “Down,” give him the treat, and share affection.
Repeat it every day. If your dog tries to sit up or lunges toward your hand, say “No” and take your hand away. Don’t push him into a down position, and encourage every step your dog takes toward the right position. After all, he’s working hard to figure it out!

We all love our dogs and hate being away from them. Take a lot of pictures of him with you and look at him as often as you need to. Think about how happy he will be to see you when you return. It's really all you can do. He will be fine. You'll see. Sounds crazy, but try to send him mental messages...who knows, he just might get them!
Have fun on your trip and bring him a souvenier toy (or several) back with you. Know he adores you and he'll know the same. Don't dwell on him, but take advantage of the opportunity to see and learn everything you can on this trip. You'll be glad you did.

Are there going to be friends for him to play with? This is his doggie vacation--he gets a month off from the job he loves, hanging out with you and being your protector. Hope he has fun!

Buy one of those Audible picture frames and take a cute picture of him and then record him barking or something cute OR record him on your cell phones' camera and you'll have him with you on your trip : ) good luck. I cried myself to sleep for two days while I was on my two week vacation. I missed my Bassett Hound.
