My local channels are broadcast in HD, but Dish Network doesn't provide them to me in HD. I have HD programming through dish network, just not my locals. I was told to get an antenna for this. The farthest local HD tower is about 40 miles away. What is a good antenna to use for this? Thanks.

I've got a couple of caveats on TV Tech-Man's answer about using the bowtie antenna. All the ones I've seen are UHF-only (channels 14 and above). Some stations will broadcast their HD using VHF channels 7-13. If that's the case in your area, you'd need a vhf/uhf antenna. So check antennaweb.org, but also call your local stations and ask what their FINAL digital TV channel assignment will be. Antennaweb only lists their current DTV channel. Some of these will change after the DTV transition on Feb 17, 2009.

If you find that all of the channels will be 14 and above, the bowtie is a good choice. However, they are quite directional, so you may need a rotor unless all the channels are in a narrow angle range from you location. Antennaweb tells you the angles (azimuth) too.
