My husbands parents passed away in an automobile accident in 1974 and I'm wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to still be able to track down the vehicle they were in during the accident...Thank you for anyone that has any knowledge of this. And please, be absolutely sure your answers are truthful before leaving a posting as this is very important to me. Thank you.

Carfax, possibly through the states DMV, more than likely though since it was a double fatality accident the car was damaged beyond repair, so it had a dismantling permit issued (some states require this) and the car sat in a junkyard being stripped away, even if it made it 20 years in the yard that would bring it up to 1994 and by 2004 steel was and is on a huge upswing combine this with urban sprawl many junkyards sent all their cars to scrap at almost $200 a ton and sold the land to developers.

Also states in statute of limitations to file suit if you believe the car's design was faulty, also the design has to be shown to not be in compliance with the FMVSS of the applicable model year it was sold as.

If you have the VIN you should be able to track it down. Slim chances are that a vehicle from 1974 will still be on the road today.

You can trace the history of a car, as long as the documentation was handled legally, by running a carfax report on it. You would need the car's vehicle identifcation number to get started and the report isn't free.

I can't tell you how much it costs as I've never used it, but I know people who have.
