I was running SUPER late for work this morning and I let my dog outside to go potty. She just sat there and stared at me. Any other day when I take her for morning walks, she goes right away. What's up? Is she just being stubborn?

My assumption is that you got her in the habbit of going on a walk insted of the backyard.

The solution?

Don't take her for a walk for a week and just let her into the backyard. If she needs to walk everyday, try switching it to the evening or just play with her so she gets a work out. But really just stop walking her in the morning for awhile. Eventually she will get the idea. Then you can walk with her again.

Do you normally walk her every morning?? She has become accustomed to the walk. Walking also stimulates the body and she is more likely to "go". My guess is that she was waiting on you. She may have been confused because the routine changed.

My dogs are very routine driven. They let me know if I skip something that I normally do. They love to know that things will happen the same way tomorrow that they did today and they can predict what I will do next.

If there will be times when you want her to go outside the house, then you may have to walk her around the yard on leash and get her used to the idea. Come up with a word for "go potty" and then give her a treat when she goes.

After a few days remove the leash and let her "go" on her own. Then, move closer to the door each day until she goes out by herself.

I know this is not a good answer for today when you were in a hurry. Sort of like trying to get a 2 year old moving when they have other plans.

I think she was confused by a break in her morning schedule. I don't think she was being stubborn.

I'm not telling you anything about how "spoiled" a pug can become to attention and routine !!
They are like children when it comes to the "attention factor" -- they just Gotsta hab it !!
That "look" was her telling YOU that YOU were not "doing right" today !! And, that SHE isn't interested in doing a dang thing right -- if YOU'RE not going to !!

Like an earlier poster said -- you have to kinda break up the ritual a bit and STILL give her the attention stuff for her to get the idea that it simply doesn't HAVE to be the exact same thing at the same time EVERY day for her to still have that "special time" with you that she SO desires !!!
She'll catch on really quick --and it'll all be just fine !!

Been a pug owner for some thirty years !!

No solution from me,but I just love pugs. They are so sweet and cute. And what a good girl she is to always potty outside. Some dogs are not that obedient. And yes, I think she's playing "alpha" dog, so you will have to show her who's boss. But that's funny.

She's too concerned with why you are in such a rush ... She'll poop once you're gone.
