is this true for Lexus? I'm looking to buy a used Lex, or maybe a new one... I just want to see what your experience was when you bought your Lex... new or used. Did you haggle?

You can always haggle the price of any car, however, most dealerships that sell luxury cars go by the motto "If you're in the luxury market, you can afford full price". My Lexus dealership didn't lower the price or make a bargain with me at all when I bought my IS. That was fine with me because I felt I was getting a good deal anyway. But usually, when buying a used vehicle, you can get them to drop the price, no matter what kind of car it is. Just try and haggle in case you can get it for cheaper.

you can absolutely haggle the price of a lexus. I did with mine. My friend drives 3 benz's and he negotiated all of them down.

And here's the dirty little secret. Markups at high end dealers are huge. You'll find them 4000+.

At least, as a rule of thumb, try for getting 10% off the sticker. I think thats fair, and it leaves the dealer to make some money too.

You can haggle the price of car no matter if it is new or used. I got my Mercedes Benz SLK and Lexus RX350 with price haggling.

The easiest way is to contact all the dealerships you would be willing to drive to via email.
I contacted all the dealerships in my state and told them the exact model and accessories I wanted. They usually returned with contact (phone) info if not an email with a price. If the dealer asks you to come in for them to tell you...DON'T!!! It's a trap to attempt to get you to "fall in love" with a car and then have to buy from them. Once you get a low price, tell the other dealerships that SAID dealer at SAID dealership offered this price. See if you can get them into a bidding war. But once they start just dropping the price by 50 bucks or something like that it gets cheap and useless.

Plus it doesn't hurt to also contact a car broker to search for a car for you. But they have fees..so yea they may have found "your" car the cheapest. Then you have to ask them their fees and how much for delivery, etc. Little bits like that will make their low priced find more expensive in the end.

Buying used gives you margin for changing the price since the car doesn't have the same value. Brand new cars are most likely sticker price or higher after adding all of the features, destination charges, and prep work.

But if you're looking to have a shot and buying for a lower cost, go for a used model.

Bringing in a decent down payment will help you even more to get into a car. Besides, I'm sure you don't want a house mortgage payment for a car note.

Your best bet is to spend 14.00 at consumer reports and get the pricing of the car. Pay no more than 500 above invoice price.
They will not negotiate if you want to order car from the assembly line. Buy from the lot and apply above rule. Most of the time, people who buy Lexus, they buy all available features except satellite radio or Mark Levinson stereo. If you can't afford to buy with these options, look for corrolla.

It's true, luxury car dealers don't want to be viewed as "discount" dealers. Although it's it's not impossible to haggle, you have to be persistent.

Look at Edmunds.com and check out their TMV prices for the car you're interested in. These are the discounted prices you should expect to pay, based on real buyers experiences.

If you are buying used, then you may have a shot. It all depends on how popular the model is and in what kind of condition it is in. The dealers know how much they can get out of the car, so it you're shooting a low ball number, they will not take it. If it is only a little off the their price, then maybe.

Hard to say really. It just depends on how bad they want to get rid of it.
