Possibly. I'm not a vet, so don't take this as medical advice, but I have a couple of suggestions.
1.) Make sure she is eating a premium dry food. This means no Friskies. Go to a PET store and get something you can't find at a GROCERY store. ProPlan, Nutro, and Royal Canin are high quality foods, with high quality ingredients. Not only is there higher quality, but the quality is consistent, unlike grocery brand foods which switch their ingredients around from time to time without notice. This can upset pets' stomachs. A high protein formula will be good for putting weight back on your kitty.
2.) Mix in some canned food. Again, spend the extra fifty cents on a premium can of food. Canned food will make just about any cat fat- and keep that in mind when she gets back to her normal weight, heheh.
3.) Nutracal. For cats. Good stuff. You can find it at Petsmart. Your vet will have some, too.
4.) If she does not noticeably gain weight in a week or so, take her to see the cat doctor. There may be more going on inside that kitty than just stress. Stress can weaken any animal's immunity, too, so something that starts as a long period of stress can turn into something worse. Don't delay taking him/her to the vet if you don't see improvement.
Kitten food may not be a bad idea- they say to give it to lactating queens (momma cats that are nursing kittens) to help keep them in good shape. If you give her a kitten food, though, again, make sure it is a high quality one. Fillers and junk aren't going to contribute much to your cat. Good luck, and I hope your kitty gets better soon!

I'm not sure about kitten food.
But the starving cat I found was obvious very very thin, I discovered that he was crazy about chicken though, so now I give him dry food during the day, and at night he gets half a cup of chicken mixed in with another bowl of dry food, he loves it and hes gained like three lbs in two or three weeks.
They make cat food for lactating mothers too which is very high in calories, and this I was told would help my cat gain the weight.

It is only a good idea to feed it kitten food if it is a kitten. If it is an adult cat, just keep feeding it it's normal food. The weight will come back.

It is true.We have a calico cat who was underweight. We took some kitten food, and mixed it in with water, and it turned to a cream colour, but there was enough food still in it to where she would be able to eat it.She gained quite a bit of weight in a few months from eating it.
The kitten food we gave her was Purina Kitten Chow.

Kitten food has more fat and calories than adult food does, so it may help.
Best to have your cat checked by your vet to make sure it is not a medical problem that is causing the weight loss. Then ask your vet what they recomend to help your cat gain back the weight.

I would ask your vet before switching your cat to kitten food. Kitten food has a lot of calories and nutrients that older cats don't need.

Kitten foods tend to be higher in calories. However, I don't recommend feeding that to your cat. For one, I don't know where the extra calories come from, but it's probably from carbs and that isn't good.
I would just continue feeding him his regular food and let the weight gain happen naturally.
If he isn't touching his regular food, you can try other kinds to tempt his appetite.

Your kitty will make up for the weight loss now that you're home and kitten food may cause it diarrhea because of the extra fat, etc.

Yes. Kitten chow has more calories and nutrition in it than the adult food, and your kitty sounds like he needs it.
Good luck!
