How soon before the flight do they drop the prices drastically? A day? An hour?

That's more of a myth than anything else...Very rarely will you find a cheap last minute fare. The saying is the further out you book the better you will be. You will sometimes find a lower fare if the planes do not fill up and you still have some cheap seats but, the general public does not have access to that kind of info. It is hit and miss on last minute fares and I have very rarely ran across a cheap last minute fare...They do say however tha Tues and Weds pose the cheapest fares...Good Luck hope this helps.

If you are travelling a few months from now and have time to plan, I check out the prices for tickets "today", "in a week", "in two weeks", "in a month", "in 2 months", "in 3 months", etc.

What I found was that if you book a long time in advance, you will pay a premium, a more expensive ticket. It seems like when the month changes (at least at Air Canada), prices will change as well.

However, it varies - flights that have a lot of space remaining, you will see the biggest drops. If the flight has fewer spots, the price may increase.

Also, instead of using an expedia or priceline, I would also check directly on the airline websites. Sometimes there are additional flights and/or prices that are more suitable.

Good luck!

They use to do that about 20 yrs ago. Not anymore.
You will pay premium if you purchase a ticket within the last 48 hrs prior departure. Either domestic or international..
The airlines motto is: If you really want to go today, why should we give a discount?

It could matter the place you're interior the worldwide, because of the fact in places like Australia the words affordable and final minute flights do no longer practice. you many times pay plenty extra leaving it to the final minute. i've got present in Asia while observing flight expenses it is likewise drastically extra leaving it final minute than once you e book ahead and in Europe it became incredibly plenty a similar deal while i became there despite if no longer as undesirable as in Australia. in case you enable people be conscious of what place you opt to fly to and the place you're flying from then somebody would have some concept.
