your vacuum switch that operates the control is malfunctioning, fairly common actually, its probably cracked or a vacuum hose is bad or has fallen off. the switch is behind the dash, connected to the knob that you use to control where the air blows.... good luck , not that much fun to get into on some vehicles.

diesel engines don't produce vacuum so you have a belt driven vacuum pump. Start with the pump and make sure it's working then follow the vacuum hose to where ever you find the leak. Sorry I don't remember where the pump is on your engine I just know it's there.
