One is on right now. It is Caribana.
Get a couple of the cheaper flops downtown in Toronto. The Downtowner on Pembroke St. is one, The EconoLodge on Jarvis another, Inglewood Arms on Jarvis is another, and the Bay Hotel just a block north of the Greyhound Bus Terminal on Bay Street is another.
Later this month is the Canadian National Exhibition with a giant midway and dozens of venues going on in the last couple of weeks in August. It ends on Labor day weekend with one of the greatest Air shows in North America.

Now is a weekly magazine with all the stuff that is fun to do. There is usually a festival or big event going onto Christmas. The best I like is the Royal Winter Fair in late October but thats a cultural thing.
Its a weekly entertainment magazine and is up on all the movies, plays, music and local festivals going on.

One of Toronto's well-known festivals is in it's final days--Caribana. Lots of food and music involved.

The Canadian National Exhibition (aka the Ex) is a must-visit event. Make sure you visit the huge Food Buliding! Lots of rides and things to do for the entire family, no matter your age. Plenty of concerts, entertainers and even an airshow.
