Your dog is doing two things. One, he is showing affection, and two, dogs like to lick our skin. OUr skin has a salty taste to dogs, and possibly to some other animals. Dogs like to lick other dogs, that show affection, so, whenever you rub your dog's belly, he is showing you affection, ANd like to lick our salty skin! I hope that this answers your question! Thanks, and good luck,

I believe that it is defintaely a sign for caring. My dog gives me kisses when I'm upset, or having a bad day. She understands. She also kisses me after I bring her to the groomers, or take her in the car somewhere. It's true dogs love salty skin, but I really do believe that licking is a sign of affection. If I say to my dog, "Kyie can mommy have a kiss?" she'll run over to me and kiss my face.

Its actually a combination of both.
Its true that dogs do love the salt on our skin.
It's also true that some dogs take up licking humans as a replacement for nursing from their mothers.
I like to think it is mostly affection though.

It means he loves you. Dogs give "kisses" just like people do. He is saying thatnks for taking care of him/petting him.

It's a sign of "Love" also when they gently place your hand in their mouth, also means they love you.
