Our male neutered cat has been peeing where he shouldn't for a while now and he won't quit! We clean it up each time,he likes to go in the corner on our rug by the door so i smells disgusting now and it's just annoying!

We've taken our cat to the vet many times and he's had tests and tons of things done and he's been on meds for it before but he keeps doing it! Sometimes he stops for a while but starts up again.

--We have no other pets besides our dog who he's always gotten along with. He's an indoor cat.

How do we get him to stop and how do we get rid of the smell??NO RUDE ANSWERS

He goes to the bathroom right by the door so we can't move his box.

The box is out of reach of our dog, its not the litter cause we've used to stuff for 9 years and he only started this about 2 yrs ago,and we frequently change the litter.

Very good question, our male cat does that to. We just scrub the pee off when its on our wood floor, were putting him in a kennle at night to stop it, because somebodys always home. Except when we go somewhere with the whole family, were probably going to put him in the kennle when no one is going to be home. If its on a carpet we put an air freshner in the room, and put baking powder on the spot. And then a few days later we vaccume it up.

I use a product called Urine-off that I get from my vet that is also available online. It is the only product I have found that seems to get that smell 100% gone -far better than Nature's Miracle or any of the other products in pets stores out there. If the smell isn't completely gone, the cat will keep marking that spot. If Urine-off doesn't do it, I'd be prepared to replace the flooring in that spot including cleaning and bleaching the base floor below and possibly the wall as well if he is spraying and then painting both the floor and the wall before recarpeting. Gross as it is, you really have to get your nose in there and see if you can detect even one molecule of odor left behind. Then place aluminum foil weighted down with furniture or another heavy object in that area. That should deter him from going there.

This is a tough problem and it may take time to solve. But getting the smell gone is a must if you ever hope to solve it.

FELIWAY!
Serously, miracle product. I love this stuff.
It's artificial cat pheremones designed to mimic the pheremones in a cat's facial glands.

Male peeing like you've described is territory marking. It's actually an "aggressive" behavior. (not that your cat is being aggressive towards you, but you know, that's how territory marking is classified) The facial pheremones make them feel calm. They mark an area as a safe place already that doesn't NEED to be marked!

You can buy it in a diffuser or as a spray (if she's spraying in just a few key areas, I might get the spray) and then you spray the area, after it's been cleaned and leave it. You will not be able to detect the scent. Only he will.
If it doesn't work the first day, KEEP USING IT! You should see results in as little as a week.

We use feliway at my vet clinic for everything from territory marking to keeping the cats happy. It's great for it all.
At home, I'm using the diffuser to integrate a rescued kitten into my household with the territorial, resident cat. It's working miracles.

It's called "FELIWAY" and you can get it at from your vet and they might even carry it at local pet supply stores.
I cannot tell you how much I swear by this product.

I would suggest putting a litter box right where the cat is going. Put newspaper underneith and maybe those puppy training pads to absorb any misses.

To get the smell out, you will probably need to steam clean the area. Also, you can pick up from your local pet store specific chemicals that are safe to you and your pet to use that will get ride of the oder. Personally, I've found Woollite Carpet Cleaner with Oxygen to be great.

Cats are creatures of habit, once they start going somewhere they shouldn't it's difficult to break. However, giving him the essentials he needs to go in the right spot is a start. As he gets used to having his litter box there, slowly move it closer to where it should be.

Another thing to consider, how often do you change your litter? Does your cat like this littler? Does your cat like or not like having the hoodie on the box? Can the dog get to his littler box easily? These all factors to consider in why this is happening.

Good luck!

Why was he on meds? If he had a urinary tract infection, which ls a disease that causes this behaviour, he may still have it. You need to dfo a urine analysis and solve the problem, because it can be deadly to male cats. Try feeding him urinary formula for a while, canned food with some extra water in it, and ask the vet if he would give him some antibiotic. Don't give medication without prescription.

Also, putting the litterbox on the spot he uses as a toilet, may help. But what is more important is the cat's health.

First you need to remove the odor, I would call a Chem-Dry carpet cleaning franchise, they have a urine treatment that does wonders. When you have done that take a clean unscented white towel and rub it all over the cat then take the towel and rub it on the carpet in those areas. This will transfer his scent there and he shouldn't feel the need to mark his territory.

With my cat i had this exact same problem!!! Cats HATE aluminum foil.......so place this where they are going especially if they are going back to the same spot......if the cat is marking their territory then they go back to the same spot but if they go all over then they might have anger issues or a health problem......you might want to visit a vet. but if u put aluminum foil where they are going they don't like the texture of the foil...... It does really work!!!!
