Go straight up to him and say, *** Dad, I am willing to work for you so I can have a puppy - How can I earn it? *** also let Dad know that you are up for the challenges of pet ownership and will take care of all of the pets needs plus cleaning up the yard after him....
Also let him know what you plan on doing with the dog when you go off to college...
Let him know that you will not burden his life and leisure with your dog in the future... this is something that parents are concerned about whenever a kid wants a dog... SO have a plan....
Check out the life expectancy of your future pet - Smaller breeds live to around age 14 and then you have the Newfie that lives to around 6-7 yrs.
Good Luck

First off remember that a puppy is a very big responsibility that only grows with time. You are going to have to seriously convince your dad that you can be responsible in taking care of the dog. Since it is summer, you are at a slight advantage because you can spend the rest of your summer vacation house breaking the puppy. That is the hardest job of all, and if you can master that one on your own, then everything else should be easy. Remember also that it is a big financial responsibility. There are shots, food, check-ups. Much the same as having a child. If the dog gets sick, it can cost quite a bit of money to take care of him/her. If you truly believe you are ready for that responsibility, then tell your dad. Tell him that you are willing to do what you can to train the puppy and you will use your allowance or work to help pay for any medical attention the puppy needs. But be truthful with him. Don't tell him you will help out, and then shirk your responsibility after you get the dog. That would not be fair to both your dad and your puppy. Good luck.

Well I have two kids, and two dogs, one is a puppy. Just because they are cute and sweet does not mean you should get one. A puppy has to go to the bathroom every couple of hours, needs to eat and drink 3 times a day, and needs to be played with and supervised constantly so that they don't chew, or get into other trouble. They are expensive, you have to get shots, licenses, training and eventually fix them and that's just the first year.
Your dad if he has said "no" to a puppy, may be looking at the work that comes along with a puppy and may not think you are responsible enough to take care of it and may not want to do it himself.
Your questions sound like they are very based around video game playing and not a whole lot of activity. If you really want to prove to your dad that you are responsible enough to have a dog, set down with him and tell him you want to start saving for a puppy. See if he will help give you some sort of a plan to accomplish this. Or better yet have one planned out. Start helping out with chores and other responsibilities on a regular basis. This will help argue your case that you are responsible enough to have a dog.
If you can get your dad to agree to a dog, I would suggest finding a dog at the pound and not a puppy. Puppies are cute their first few months, but a dog that is a year or two old, is closer to being able to learn how to fetch, play with you, and do the things you really want a dog to do and they may already have some training. And a pound puppy will love you forever.
Good luck arguing your case.

Start acting really responsible, and taking care of your things as if you were looking after a dog!!! I really wanted a puppy a few years ago and I was given a rabbit to look after first!! I showed how responsible i could be and they saw that maybe i was ready for a dog!! Try suggesting that you get it for your birthday or something, or start maybe with goldfish or something along those lines!! Just make sure that you don't throw tantrums or strops because all that will do is show your dad that you aren't responsible enough!! If all my advice fails
Do lots of research on dogs and find a dog thats perfect for you, your home and your dad!!

my mum convinced her parents by saying all the benefits of having a dog, one was the protection you have against burgulars and intruders. Dogs help you learn responsibility, they protect you and your home and can be the best companion you will ever have.

first you have to start doing nice things for him. like help him in the garage, and whatnot. then, (on a good day) ask him what he'd think if you wanted a dog. If he asks why, tell him tell him why. (like, "because i really would like a dog for a companion, or to learn responsibility.) Be sincere, and dont act like a knowitall. OR
you could just ask for one.

Just ask your dad if you can have one and accept the answer he gives.

First of all when he says no, keep trying...Don´t give up. Tell him you will take care of it all the time, and will prove to him how badly you want the dog by full filing everything he wants.
