On one of my molars I have a vey thin blackish line. It is pain free so is it just a stain or is it a crack. Also on the same tooth, I have a really small black spot. You can't really see it unless you look real closely. It is pain free and not sensitive to anything. Should I tell the dentist about these things when I go for my cleaning or should I just leave it up to them to worry about? I mean, it's nothing serious right? Aren't they just harmless stains. I brush my teeth so much! I've never had a cavity. I brush so well in those areas, so what could it be? pleaze help me!

I've had these spots for months now and they haven't gotten bigger. So they aren't cavities right?

It's most likely just stain, I've seen this very often. Brushing with a toothbrush alone won't get it out. Mention it to the hygienist who cleans your teeth, she/he can most likely get it off by using a polisher with a brush or a prophy jet (a baking soda spray) these are very harmless and painless.

It could just be a stain, but it could also be a cavity. Just because you are pain free so far means nothing, that just means the cavity hasn't reached the nerve (good sign). You shouldn't have to worry about mentioning it to your dentist when you go in for your cleaning. When they do the cleaning, and take x-rays they'll be able to tell right away if it is a cavity or not. I would think that if it is in fact a cavity it is a VERY small one. Don't worry about it. Let the dentist look at it and decide. You'll be fine.

Hope this helps. :-)

If it is a cavity, I'm sure the dentist will see it. It would be a good measure to tell the dentist though.

It's better that you get it fixed than let it go. If you let it go, then it could become infected and really hurt. Having a cavity fixed doesn't really hurt and is nothing to really worry about.

sometimes people get cavity's even if they've been brushing really good. it might be that, or it might not. But you really should tell the dentist. If it turns out to be something serious they can fix it before it gets bad. And if it gets bad it will hurt and cost more money. It could be nothing but be sure to tell them!
