they say that immigrants commit crimes but I guess Americans dont...

This isnt anything new...Every nationality has its stereotypes and generalizations...look at the Russian Jews when they flew from communism how they were treated here and they were thought to be communists in the 40s and 50s
One of my parents friends said he used to get beat up in school because hes family fled from Russia during the soviet times because he didnt speak English...

I read the question and the other question, too.

We are far better prepared as individuals to deal with the influx of diverse cultures than any other nation on earth. As such, we aren't nearly as xenophobic as any other nation. Not by a long shot.

Imagine the government of Japan permitting 20 to 40 million people from Laos and Thailand (similar languages) to enter that country. Do you think they'd not be poisoned. Think there wouldn't be mass protests in the streets?

Xenophobia is really just a last-resort shot-in-the-dark defense given the whole picture. Why is our government allowing this? Why is our government encouraging it? Why is the mass illegal immigration almost entirely from Spanish-Speaking countries? Why haven't China and India begun sending millions/year each? Not that I want them to. But it would seem to follow that if the US govt really wanted diversification, they'd be figuring out how to bring 20 or 30 million Indonesians here. It isn't happening. I don't get it.

There is definitely a lot more fear of foreign cultures in the United States than in any other American country. This is partly due in that the generation expressing their opinions have never been in similar conditions as those the immigrants have been in, and therefore lacking understanding. What I mean by this is that most of the people against illegal immigrants don't know a flip of what they are talking about, and use a very short, inhumane logic that says "if they broke the law, deport them." I am completely sure that if people who went through the great depression were asked their opinion, they would be way more considerate than those who were born during the 70s or 80s, when America was already on its full bloom.

I think there is a certain portion of the population driven by xenophobia due to their own weaknesses.

I am far from being xenophobia. I do not think this nation is perfect, we are a good nation, but we could learn a few things from other countries. This is true of every nation. Furthermore, there is no justification to be xenophobic.

We sure are.I have seen xenophobia first hand when growing up in a multi-cultural neighborhood with every kind of different immigrant imaginable. All of them were LEGAL and the people who considered themselves to be "real Americans"(whatever that is),picked on them constantly, blamed them for their problems.Especially if they couldn't find and/or keep a job.In the 70's when the factories were booming in RI,immigrants used to take these jobs. All I would hear people say "Well, maybe I could get a job if it wasn't for those blankety-blank so-and-so's taking all of our jobs." And these were all LEGAL immigrants mind you.So the fact that everybody is dumping all over the new immigrants doesn't surprise me in the least.Illegal immigration, however, has gotten out of hand in the last 15-20 years.

Depends on your definition of Xenophobic. We are one of the most inclusive nation in the world. If you call our nation xenophobic, you must call ALL nations xenophobic. Some try to compare our nation to EUrope to prove we are not as accepting, but I listen to the BBC and Germany, France and ENgland now have tougher laws against immigrants. Anglea wants to give their immigrants a timeline to learn German. France duct tape their illegal immigrants mouth and police escort them out. England id trying to follow France's model and force new immigrants to do community service. Australia is always tougher, and a Canadian city made a statement detailing expectations of their immigrants. And there are tons of people here who would describe Mexico's immigration ideals.

As for your link, I don't see your point. I know there are racist statements made here, and perhaps those got deleted. AS for your comment on Bush Family, I don't seem to see why you attacked him. He said the same thing as you. He said Americans work as hard as Illegal immigrants. Thats furthest from a racist statement, and then he said COntractors abuse illegal immigrants to make a profit.
You made a statement that Farmers abuse illegal immigrants. YOu also said this of illegal immigrant,"What's worse is that they get paid nothing for it, and work under extreme and cruel conditions"

Onless Bush edit his answer, his statement is far from Xenophobic. In fact the only threat he mention is of contractors who mistreat their employees, not of illegal immigrants.

Depends on who you talk to...

We are a country made up of over 300,000,000 (that is 300 million) people.

Yes there are racist and yes there are people who aren't racist.

HOWEVER....I can tell you this...

You CANNOT fight racism and have special interest groups and special consideration for a certain group of people.

If EVERYONE in this country is equal and wants to be treated as such, then quit making groups for only certain people.

Every race/group in this country is permitted to have a group or special something for them EXCEPT European-Americans. If it is considered "racist" when there is an all white group...what is it when it is an all black group...or an all asian group...or an all latino group????

What is good for one is good for all. Get off of the double standards and a lot of the racial tension in this country will subside.

America is a melting-pot society, so I would say not.

However, that being said, Mexicans are descriminated against, and Islamics are feared.

Why? 12 million illegal Mexicans reside here, and Islamic radical extremists are responsible for the deaths of Americans worldwide.

No, we are not. We do expect a person to be legal in our country though and there's nothing xenophobic about wanting law and order!
