i have a dream of being a broadway performer, but my actual job would be a music teacher, and i will be 12 in september. and, i am really worried that i will never be able to bc i don't take piano lessons bc my mom won't let me , and she says if i want to learn so bad that i should learn myself. well, i am trying to learn out of a schaum piano book, but i feel like i will never get better! my dad taught me scales but thats about it! and i am picking up from my vocal teacher some things , but how can i get better without a piano teacher, or is it just hopeless!

Also tell your mom that when I child learns a musical instrument they also get better in school subjects such as math and reading. If its the cost that is keeping her from letting you, offer to take on more responsibilities around the house to offset the cost. I really hope she changes her mind. I cannot imagine how my life now would be if my mom hadn't let me start piano when i was a kid.

I am very musical myself and the first question I have for you is how long have you been playing? iFnotforvferylong then don't expect to get things right away. A good idea is to talk to your mom about why she might not be letting you take lessons. See what's up and try to compromise or find some sort of agreement. If you still need to learn on your own, just dont play when your frustrated. If you do get frustrated then leave themusic alonbe for a little and come back later.
All I can say is if this is what you really want to do work at it. And remember even Mozart had to start where you are now.

Hello, it's me again. I'm in the same boat as you are. I want to be a musical genius in the performing arts. That means I have to learn to dance, act, sing, and play music. I can play the guitar quite well, but I have NO knowlege of music theory. After watching a few videos of pianists on Youtube, I was motived to pick up my old piano books and get my keyboard workin' again. Here's what I'm going to do, I have no idea how it'll turn out on the longterm lol:
First, I'm going to buy myself a text book on Music Theory and study it along with all my other school subjects. Since I can't get piano lessons (because my scedule is filled to the brim with acting, voice, and dance lessons), i'm going to teach myself piano.
I've gotten out some of my old piano books, and after I'm through with them, I'm going to buy myself some new piano books. I can't play a song until I hear it once through, so I'm going to buy my next books with CDs in them, That'd be a good idea for you too!
Third, Piano lessons won't do anything unless you practice! I never practiced my guitar becuase it was boring, and i didn't ever make much progress.
I'm using a piano book called "Note Speller" by John W. Schaum. I'm gonna start using those books too. Since I already know Treble Clef, I really need to study my Bass Clef. Note Speller is a work book that teaches you about the notes.. Kinda like extreme basic music Theory. You can also take Music Theory in college as one of your courses, i'm gonna do that too when the time comes, (i'm 15.. three years *gasp* o.o).
Nothing will become possible for you if you don't work at it! Practice a lot, everyday. I haven't been doing my practicing and i might regret it when fall starts and I start dance classes without being at all flexible.
Also, your mom has a point. She probably doesn't want to spend money on lessons only to find out that you aren't very motivated. I'd just go with learning on my own. I actually don't want piano lessons. I used to have them, Piano teachers sucked terribly. I have a friend to taught himself piano and he's really really good!! He's my inpiration, because he had no piano lessons at all and probably won't.
Have fun, piano's not easy, but it's beautiful when played. Look for kyle556 on youtube. He has an awesome assortment of videos on youtube of himself playing piano. He's had lessons, yes, but he's my inspiration too cuz he's just so good!
Have fun, and don't lose hope!

There are very good music education programs in college. Just try very hard with your studies, first and foremost, and you can get very good training with a variety instruments while you're in school. Beware: Music Education programs are no picnic. They're extremely intense, not leaving you much time for a social life. But if that's your dream, you can get excellent training that way. It's not too late, I promise!!

What? I even have been a musician and nonetheless be conscious of a lot of them, so in step with hazard i'm biased, yet i do no longer hesitate to assert: choose for the dream, yet be severe approximately it! avert slacking off. maximum each and every person is a lot happier understanding they have tried. And in case you will possibly desire to offer it up, you likely can save up and purchase the effective automobile later.

I also learned by myself... But, it is opposite with me because they allow me to take classes, it just that I rather spend it on acting classes..
