I am in the process of buying a home entertainment system. Do I need to buy a CD player for audio music AND a Blue-Ray Player for movies? Instead of buying two items, I was thinking of buying one Blue-Ray Disc Player which would take care of both my audio and video. Are Blue-ray disc players compatible with high end stereo systems? Would appreciate if you could let me know.

They sure can. What other equipment were you going to get?

But depending on the quality you are looking for you may want a CAST system, or a CD player with XLR outs.

No they can't. It's kind of like saying can a DVD disc play in a VHS player... hah.. You mean do you need other software to play the Blu-Ray disc on a DVD player? I'm not sure if those even exist. You will need a Blu-Ray player, which are pretty expensive. Or a Playstation 3.

You certainly can play your CDs on your Blu-ray Player. There is no reason to buy a separate CD Player.

I've linked to the owners manual for two of the most popular Blu-ray players in the resources section below.

You'll find the full list of discs that are playable on page 5 of the Sony BDP-S300 Manual and page 7 of the Samsung BD-P1200 Owner's Manual.

NOT ALL BLU-RAY PLAYERS PLAY CDS!!! The Pioneer BDP-HD1 does not support CD playback. AFAIK, all other models do, but the Pioneer is a classic example of LET THE BUYER BEWARE. Do not naturally assume that all BD players support all formats. If you are interested in one, do your research.
